Only Ona Bridge Stood.
Only one bridge in Weaton stood the
strain of the flood last Friday night.
Two bridges in the town are ruined
and several others are reported by the
Leader to he on the verge of collapse.
I'art of the west bank of Main street
bridge crumbled in, leaving a deep
hole; the bridge on the road to the
depot dropped Into the stream ; the big
bridge on lower Water street, aud two
smaller ouei in the umier end of town,
and one on Franklin street, were
more or less damaged and rendered un

The total damage to the town's

VICTORY FOR PENDLETON.

The game of foot Mali on Friday Bfter

grounds, lietween the teiini- ol Wai h.
Walla and Pendleton, was won hy the
latter bv a score of 11 to 0. The visi
tor arrived on the train Thararlay
evening and were met at the depot by
a large delegation and esroMed to their
qoartePB. Earty Friday afternoon there
was a stampede to the scene of opera
lions. The Btoree. hanks and postofflce
were closed, affording an oportiinity
lor many to attend, anal the crowd
there was estimated at SOD
a When play was callml Pendleton had
(lie west end ol the grounds and Walla
Walla the east. Slnsher kicked off
and the ball rolled toward Walla
Walla, but through some mistake their
players fluked and on the down Pen
dleton got the ball. Mr. Slmll being
largely instrumental therefor. The
players pushed each other heck and
forth and gUred savagely at each for
several downs, lawis petting through
the center, taking advantage ot large
holes made in the opKising team hy
Shull and Anderson; Dale Slusher
made a left end run; Turner ran
Around right end to within 16 yards
of goal. Slusher made a run south
across the held, hut without cam; then
came more straight line bucking, until
Captain Hill was enabled to dash
through the line for a touchdown hack
of the goal , Slusher kicked a straight
goal, and the score stood ti to 0 in
favor of Pendleton.
Seoond Hair.
After the touchdown in the first
half the Pendleton enthusiasts breathed
easier, and as not lung of interest
happened before time wns called the
second ball was opened with a large
majority of thoee present in a good
humor. The boys from Casket Moun
tain were waiting for an oppottaByst
to annoiinie that thev were present,
for naturally thev svmnathieil with
Walla Walla, and made no hones shout
it. Lusater kicked off for Walla
Walla and here is where it required
the real art tela to keep WnllnWulla
from scoring a touchdown. I'endleton
failed to make yardage and Walla
Wulla got the ball. It was push and
shove for some little time until the
glossy eye of the umpire detected one
of the Pendleton tsiys on the wrong
side ol an imaginary line, aud he ad-
vancau the Walla valla nova 1U vsrds.
Whether it was Daft Shull or Elmer
Turner who was t he offender will never
he positively known. Some sav that
Mr. Turner hopped nimbly through
the Walla Walla line like a weasel
before the ball was in play. This de
cision had the effect of putting the pig
skin right on I elidletoli H Irnnt door
step, as it were, and the home Ihivs
humped their hacks for a supreme effort.
The off-side play had given them the
hull, and thev took no chances. I in
bucked the center and made holes for
Lewis to go tin, nigh, and it is super
fluous to state that he vent. That is
what he was there for, aud lie attended
strict'y to his knitting. Time after t ime
and steadily the ball was advanced
toward Walla Walla's goal, until near
the center ol the field. A couple of
short runs for good gum an mini the

It was near the close of the second
