farms, and he has some blooded sheep
here which be is offering for sale to the
sheepmen of (JmOtilte county.
Col. Prank Savage, traveling freight
agent nf the Northern Pacific Railway
CompOOy, is a Hotel Pendleton guest.
Col. Savage has been through the Pov
erty Plol country, over the line in the
state of Washington, looking at the
wheat. He finds that tlio quality of the
grain will be first-class, but t fin t the
yield w ill not bo up to the expectations
of the earlier part of the season. It in
estimated that the yield will be about
25 bushels to the acre, of good No. 1
wheat. He was also through other
regions of the slate of Washington, and
finds practicallv the same conditions

AMONG THE WHEAT FIELDS.

From Threshers to the Northwest.
Alex. Drysdale, agent for tiirwin iV
Kyro, wan out among the wheat tields
on Toooday, and returned in the even
ing bringing several samples of grain
from the threshing machines which are
in operation to the northwest of Pen
dleton. Mr. Drysdale tinds that the
roach 1 Ml are pouring out a steady
stream of (lie very best of wheat, most
nf it being No. I in grade, and none of
it what could be called a poor berry.
Ho has samples of wheat from the
farms of George Fwoblefj of stage
Unloh. David Nelaon, Mrs. Sarah
Plgt Thompson and the l.aing brothers
ami also MM) barley samples w hich
are first-class.
Ho has heard also from the thresh
ing returns m ar Milton, on lands con
trolled by the companies he represents,
and in every instance the quality is
reported to lie fine.
Regarding the yield, no complete re
turns are yet in, and only estimates
can lie made. It is thought that the
yield will not be no large as in sonic
former yearn, although it it is going
to lie largo enough to give ever) farmer
a good total of grain for sale.
T. J. Tweedy began threshing oil
Toeedoy morning for Wodo A Cosher
man, on their reservation lands. The
barley is turning out well, and is of
very tine quality.
