TOURNAMENT AT DAYTON.
Eastern Oregon and Washington Asso

Concerning the annual tournament
nf the regular nnaociatioti of firemen,
the Walla Walla Ctiion sayn:
"Final arrangamontd have been
made for the Bremen 'i tournament to

second Tuesday in May RM continuing
three days. At present it RMfBnra WIBl

"Last year the ti'iiriinment wan held
at Walla Walla. In the wet tent the
Dayton team aeenred the tirsi prize, a
beautiful silver cup. which is highly
prized by the victors. One or two
tennis will compete from Walla
Walla."
Then follows an intimation that the
Pendleton tire department on "several
occasions linn attempted to break up
tournaments. The Intent move ia to
start a little tournament of their own.
However, the balance of the annocia
tioii will hold a tournament at Dayton
in June, and it w ill he made a success
without Pendleton."
Pendleton's "Ltttle Tournament of Its
Own."
Considerable iinni"enieiit ban been
caused here ill Peiulletoti by showing
the i tiioti'n item to the firemen, hut
no particular attention la paid to it.
The plan which ban been evolved here
is prompted by a denire to bring the
Pendleton department to the highest
poHnihle nlate of efficiency. Due eon-
(deration ol tbe iltnatkw brought the
decision to ox H'ii.l the energies of the
Pendleton Bremen In tire line of tour
nament competition here in town.
Such a local tournament as will la
held here w ill afford ample opportunity
for competition and will be compara
tively inexpelinive. It in the belief
thnt "it will pnaluce better renult
1 1 it ii participation in the tournaments
of the general association. Pendleton
Bremen have no denire to break up

found here who would do ho if he
could. Pendleton tin-men, however,
claim the right theiiisi lves to elect
what action they shall take, and it
will probably make little difference
what others say 00 the subject.
Mavor Vincent is unite enthusiastic
(or the local tournament plan. He
uud the conncilmen pledge that the
council will put up the flOO silver cup
to Im-competed for each year in the
wet test, and also the 2"i ca-h prizes
