Saturday evening the Pendleton Com mercial Association held a special meeting and transacted several iitinnr- iitm items 01 iniHineHH. tine was tin election of sixty business men to mem bership. The other was the profnei- tion ami its partial consideration to build a town hall and home of the as sociation combined. Judging from the proceedings of the last three meetings, the association has 1 1 aroused to renewed life and will exhibit considerable life and energy under the vigorous and efficient leader ship of the president, Judge Fee. Resides the taking in of new mem bers and the discussion of plans for the erection of a town hall, there was also expression of opinion as to the general lines along which the association should work. The discussion brought common agreement that the association can liest work through committees. It is the Isdief that by the Appointment of committees to look into the various subjects which come up and the return ing of exhaustive and interesting re ports by the committees, the assis-ia-tion ran be kejit interested ami will back any legitimate plan or project which may be proposed. The Town Hall Plan. The plan referring to the town hall was proposed bv Mayor I'. W. Vincent, who, although a member of the associa tion, attended this time in the capacity of a representative of the city government. He sisike of the iush for a town hall in which the business of the city could l-c transacted ami all payment of rent atoned. His idea was that the city and the assis'lation could together contribute the monev to erect the hall and Isith thereby in tbe future avoid payment ol any rent. The proposition was received with general enthusiasm and appeared to 11 1 with approval. At the present time, the plans are necessarily crude and incomplete, but in brief involve the purchase of a suitable site and the erection thereon of a building in which the city officers Would find nsim and the association as well have p. mi- fortable quarters. The matter at the present time rests with a committee, the members of which are: C. II. Wade, Ir. C. J. Smith, Hubert Forster and T. C. Tuvlor. Mayor Vin cent who was apsiiiited to membership tits since declined to serve on th ground that he should rcpreneiit the It v only in the matter.
