Two large wagondoads of freight, hauled
by four-horso teams, left this morning for
tho John Day country. Ono was con
signed to Sam Hoynohls, formerly Pen
dleton's lumber man, who now controls
largo stock and ranch Interests at tho
head of tho Middle Fork of tho John
Day. The other was for Mr. Dorman, a
storekeeper In that section. Tho drivers
stated tho road was iu a bad condi
tion, it sometimes taking the full strength
of eight largo horses to null ono wagon
through u disagreeable piece of road. Tho
fact of these and other loads of freight lo
ing hauled from Pendleton ovor this mis
erable road will convey an Idea of the
huge amount of business which will Ikj
done by our merchants with tho l-ong
Creek and .h hn Dav sections vhun a
. good road Is pushed through. The good,
old freighting ilays will lw iwiol in a
measure, and Pendleton will sell instead
of buv, with much profit to herself.
