iron and steel in tho bridge is two million

In total length tho bridge proper is six
hundred and sixty feet, and consists of
two spans, ono llxcdiind the ot her u draw,

on it pivotal pier, land when open swings
over u protuclion of piling built at right
angles to tlio bridge and extending llio

bed of tho stream, wliich were sawed oil
evenly at u dupth of -10 feet liclow low water

Tho draw Hiian, which rests uhhi these
wheels, will bo separated by a small steam
unuino, located on ono side of the draw
span. Tho pier upon which tho connecting
ends oi tlio two spans rest, was made by
driving two clusters of piles fourteen
feet in diameter, side by side, around
each of which was sunk a heavy iron
cylinder, tlio spaces insidu being solidly

for teams to pass. Tho space in the clear
ulxivo the planks Is 11 feet, tho remainder
of the forty feet of total height of tho
structure wing tilled with angle-iron
braces. On u level of the roadway out
side the trusses, on each side, is a foot
way six feet wldo, protected "by ample
railings and guards.
Tliu structure is being constructed by
tho O. it, A N. Company on its own no-
co; m, aim not by contract, so that tho
exact cost is yet unknown. It will, how-
ovor, ajiproxtinato J'BO.OOO. The frame
Ih of solid Iron uud stcol, principally tho
latter, the draw weighing 600 tons, and
the Uxcd span 1108 tons. The bridge is
being made by tho Union Bridge Com

On tho west side the approach to tho
wagon-way Is 700 fcot long, beginning at
thocornorof Third and O streets, and
forming a viaduct over tliu trucks of the
Noi thorn l'acille and Oregon A California
roads. Tho railroad track from tho
bridge will connect immediately with
trucks now on Front street. On the east
sldo tho roadway connects with Ilolliday
aveuuo about tlueu blocks lielow tlioO.it
0. ferry landing, by an approach of 150
feot, and the track joins tho tracks of the
O. k 0. through u deep cut now being
mado In the high bunk south if the
