have never quite passed the stage of
nausea when the flyin g horse strike s
an a ir pocket and dives down-down-
down and then up-up-up, w ith a no­
tion lik e th a t o f a fa st elevator.

R eaching New Y o rk, tore down to
the dock on the low er side o f the
Hudson riv e r and there boarded one
of the new, fast w hite vessels o f the
U nited F r u it Lines. This line op­
erates w h a t is probably the best
service to L a tin A m e rica , our “ Good
N e ig h b o r.” The boats are m ore
ya c h t-lik e than s tric tly co m m e rcia l,
and one has a feeling of being m as­
te r of one’s own c ra ft as one stro lls
le isu re ly along th e ir tr im decks. Un­
like m ost ocean lin e rs, one does not
have to be continuously p ro p e rly
dressed fo r th is o r th a t occasion,
w hich is an o th e r g re a t co m fo rt.

boat seems to be a w o rld to itse lf,
and except fo r the ra p t attention
w ith w hich the passengers listen to
the news broadcasts, and the sud­
den and heated argum ents on pol­
icy and p o litics w hich break fo rth
occasionally, one could aknost fo r­
get the cro w d in g w o rrie s o f our hec­
tic w orld.
