The best news ever heard by res­
idents of Gold Hili was (he an­
nouncement this week by officials
of the Beaver Portland Cement
company that the dust would be
controlled. Work has been started
on the dust collector and the im­
provement will be completed as
soon as possible.
The dust collector consists of 21
units, each unit Jo be placed around
the large stack at the plant. One of
the units has been completed and
has been placed on the stack. The
other 29 units will be finished as
soon as possible and will be added
as each is completed. Between So
and 90 per cent of the dust will be
taken from the stack when all 21
units are in operation. Each unit
has a fan and chemicals are used
to settle the dust.
It is believed that several tons
of the dust escape from the cement
plant and are scattered over the
surrounding countryside each day
while the plant is in operation.

Work was resumed on the $150,-
090 hydro-electric diversion dam
in Rogue river near here this week,
when Circuit Judge H. D. Norton
handed down a decision favoring
the cement plant. The Oregon state
game commission had attempted to
have a restraining order prohib­
iting the construction of the dam.
The game commission had con­
tended the dam would prevent mi­
gratory fish from going up and
down the Bogue, and otherwise
bother the fish. The cement com­
pany proved that the dam would
not interfere with fish life, nor be
injurious to it.
Following the decision by Judge
H. D. Norton the Rogue River
Sportsmen club, which is made up
mostly of Medford residents, states
through the president of the club,
Kenneth G. Denman, that the game
commission is not satisfied with
the decision and that this case will
be prosecuted to its ultimate con­
clusion.
The Medford club which claims
359 members has approved the fil­
ing of the game commission suit. It
is a well-known fact that many
members of the Medford club are
very poorly informed on the dam
being constructed here, some of
them going so far as to believe
that the dam will cross the riv.-
er.
The diversion dam which is be­
ing constructed by the cement
company is the same as has been
in operation in the river for many
years to furnish water for the
city of Gold Hill. The old wooden
walls are being replaced by ce­
ment and some cement work is be­
ing done to comply with a decis­
ion handed down by the United
States Supreme 'court.
The Gold Hill Rod and Gun club
which is made up of many fisher­
men and sportsmen in this section
has passed a resolution opposing
the action of the state game com­
mission and the Medford Sports­
men club.
GARDEN CLUB NEWS

session at the club room, Friday,
