Headlining the two days of festiv ities are the 42-round boxing card and the Shakespearean festival, both of which will be staged in the Chautauqua building in Ashland's justly famed Lithia Park. The entire program, many featur es of which still have to be perfect ed, will include a major street pa rade in the morning of Thursday, July 4, followed by kids' bike races in roped-off sections of the down town district a bathing beauty con test at the Twin Plunges, an elab orate and picturesque fireworks display Thursday evening, and a large number of sporting events. The Shakespearean festival w il: include the presentation of t w r plays, “Twelfth Night” and "The Merchant of Venice”. Angus L. Bowroer, drama director at the Southern Oregon Normal School who achieved prominence with his Diamond Jubilee Pageant in Med ford last summer, w i l l direct both dramas and play leading roles in each. They will be given in the Elizabethan manner on a specially- built stage. Throughout the week of July 4, Stephan’s Superior Shows will op. erate in Lithia Park. One of the most outstanding carnival attrac tions in the nation, the show will come to Ashland direct from Holly wood movie appearances. This field was seedc. last spring and irrigated during H h summer. The first of May this year the clover was 14 to 16 inches high, and Mr. Marks has pastured 30 to 40 cows on it since then and they have been unable to keep it down. Mr. King says. To Test Seed Corn Varieties HILLSBORO—In an attempt to answer the question, “Which of the two varieties of seed corn, Idatu Minnesota 13 or local Minnesota 13, produces the best grade of silage?“ about which there seems to be a dif ference of opinion among Washing ton county farmers, five demonstra tion trials are being started on farms throughout the county, says Assistant County Agent, L. E. Fran cis. A quarter acre each of the Idaho seed and the local seed will be planted on each farm, and when ready for the silo will be cut and weighed. Records will be taken showing the relative weights of grain and fodder and total tonnage, and analysis will be made of silage from each crop to determine which has the greatest feeding value.
