Political agitators have for t h g past several weeks been gathering together the forces of discontent in preparation for a bitter and de termined recall campaign against Governor Charles H. Not only is it planned to attempt the recall of Governor Martin, but the same group w ill seek the recall in Multnomah county of State Sen ator H . L. Corbett, president of the State Senate. And those sponsoring this movement do not want Senator Cor bett to serve as acting governor in the event that Governor Martin should be recalled, Mr. Boyer re vealed in the statement he made public. “Although the Oregon Producers and Shippers association is nonpar tisan and non-political, we believe the impending effort to disrupt our state government is so serious that the voters of Oregon, regardless of political affiliations, should stand as a unit in resisting this attempt to overthrow orderly state govern ment,” declared Mr. Boyer. “As might be expected, these few ill-advised leaders of political and economic discontent haven’t the moral courage to come out in the open. They prefer, for the present, to remain behind the scenes until such time as their insidious propa ganda of class hatred has taken root in the minds of those who eventual ly w ill be called upon to shoulder the responsibility for this proposed recall campaign. ’T h e chief trouble w ith t h e s e self-seeking political malcontents is that they do not want as the gover nor of this state a man who is courageous enough to demand and guarantee the observance of la w and order. “This small group of radical agi tators now fomenting this recall ag itation are the same ones who, a year ago, gave vocal as w e ll as ma terial support to a communistic labor organisation which cost the farmers of this state millions of dollars during the longshoremen’s strike. There was a strange bond of sympathy between them and those violent forces which disregarded law and order and brought many of our producers to the threshold of financial ruin. “During the last session of the leg islature, when the producers of this state were making a determined ef fort to obtain remedial legislation for their own protection and for the protection of the public, it was the last-minute tactics of these same po litical Judases that defeated s o m e of our plans. "According to present plans, lt is proposed to start the recall petitions against both Governor Martin and Senator Corbett in about six weeks. The welfare of this state is endang ered. The political hypocrite insti gating this agitation must either be stopped or we w ill be thrown into a state of chaos from which we w ill be many years trying to recover. "As a citisen of Oregon, and without regard to partisan politics, I urge the thinking people of thia state to stand ogether in stamping out this pending political racketeer ing. It is a serious menace to the economic, social and political life of this state. The recall campaign w ill be based on the flimsy and dishon est pretext that Governor Martin is not in sympathy with tbe great mass of people.
