The project under w ay is an ex­
tensive experim ent in the u tiliz a ­
tio n o f raw fla x fib e r by m aking It
d ire c tly in to cigarette paper. The
fla x w ill be decorated m echanically
and shipped to France w ith o u t re t­
tin g to be m anufactured there.
A t present lin e n rags are used
solely fo r m a n ufacturing this p ro ­
duct because o f th e ir cheapness, and
the U nited States im ports its e n tire
supply. The Champagne paper co r­
poration o f New Y o rk has been ex­
perim enting w ith th is new cheaper
process in the south A tla n tic slates
b u t d iffic u ltie s developed there
w h ich it is believed do not exist
here in Oregon.
