FIRE DESTROYS KIEF RESIDENCE LITTLE SAVED FROM EAB1.T MORNING BLAZE; INSUR ANCE COVERS LOSS Fire, which started about eight o'clock, completedy destroyed the Kichard Keif home just across the river south of Gold H ill this (Thurs day) morning. The flames had gained fierce headway, before Mrs. Keif noticed them. She and her sister were alone in the house, Mr. Keif having gone to his mine on Galls creek. Because no phones were near, Ihe Gold H ill fire department could not be reached immediately. The alarm was finally spread by calling across the river to the Coy service station, and Seth Coy informed Fire Chief Kell, who at once took Ihes city’s chemical truck to the scene. By that time, however, the house was a mass of flames, and ef forts were concerted on saving the garage which was nearby. Origin of the fire is not certain, but it is thought it started around the flue in the kitchen, or in the wood shed which adjoined the kitchen. The property was covered by in surance. Three Sentenced in Reed Court This W eek Charges of theft, improper license plates and of giving improper clearance when passing a vehicle, brought three persons into Judge H. D. Reed's court here during the past week. Robert Shores of Rogue River was arraigned Saturday on com plaint of H. C. Messenger for steal ing a pump from the latter’s proper ty near the Del Rio orchards. Shores pleaded guilty but sentence was deferred pending investigation of the value of the pump to deter mine whether the charge should be for grand or petty larceny. It is ex pected that sentence w ill be im posed today. A. Brown, workman here, an swered to the improper license charge Monday, and received a fine of 85 and costs, which was suspend ed. J. M. Scott, operator of a motor cycle was picked up by a state of ficer Monday, when he cut in after passing a car on Blackwell hill. His fine of 85 was also suspended. SHOWER FOR MRS. MERRITT DAVIS AT FERGUSON HOME Mrs. M erritt Davis, nee Mabel Robinson, a recent bride, was the recipient of many pretty and useful gifts at a shower in her honor giv en at the home of Mrs. W illiam Ferguson Tuesday evening.
