of April was $1-4,421.64. according lo
reports of superintendents filed
with the Oregon State Board of
control.
Institutional population at the
end of April was 6.016, a decrease
under the 6,042 inmates housed at
the end of March, but an increase
of 122 over April of the previous
year when 5,894 persons were
wards of the state. The Oregon State
hospital had the greatest population
with 2,235 patients, and the Eastern
Oregon State hospital at Pendleton
was second, with t,306. These two
hospitals had 137 more on their rolls
than a year ago.
The other institutions reported
the following number of inmates.
Oregon Fairview home (for the
feeble-minded I, 901; Oregon State
Penitentiary, 767; Stale Tuberculos
is hospital, 261; Eastern Oregon
Tuberculosis hospital at The Dalles,
134; State School for the deaf. 115;
Oregon State Training school at
Woodburn, 108; State Industrial
school for girls, 70; Oregon Blind
Trades school at Portland, 62; State
School for the Blind, 57.
Per capita cost, averaged for the
entire group, was $30.23 for April, a$
compared to $30.40 in April, 1933.
Lowest cost per patient was that or
the Eastern Oregon State hospital
with $12.62, while the Oregon State
hospital ranked second with $12.90,
and the Oregon Fairview home,
third, witth $13.71. The peniten
tiary’s cost per inmate was $21.64,
and the institutions with 'smaller
populaions ranged as follows: State
Tuberculosis hospital, $40,51; East
ern Oregon Tuberculosis hospital,
$46.31; State Training school, $3651;
Industrial school, $3L86; Blind
school, $39.84; Deaf school, $42.88;
and Blind Trades school, $33.91.
