GAS WAR IN PROSPECT
A gas war in Oregon looms as the
first shipment of gasoline bought by
the state is being shipped to Salem
this week. The gas is being deliver
ed for 12 cents a gallon.
Oregon nas always been higher
on gasoline prices than other states,
even those states much farther
away from the oil refineries than
this state. Tourists that enter Ore
gon remark about it and wonder
what the reason is. Residents here
have wondered why too, but noth
ing was ever done about it before.
While gas wars are said to have
a bad effect on business, if carried
on in the right manner they will
have much to do in getting the price
to where it belongs and where mo
torists can afford to use more. In
the long run the oil companies will

be just as w ell off as their volumn

the difference.
The state is purchasing 30,00»'
gallons from the Union Oil Co. ni
12 cents. Many counties are plan
ning to follow suit. Douglas count)
joined the cost-cutting fight Mondav
when the county judge in that
county asked for the correct pro
cedure in buying gas at the reduced
price. Other counties will no doubt
aid in the fight and eventually the
price of gasoline w ill be reduced to
a more reasonable level.
Several office-seekers have used
the gas price cutting as one of their
platforms and it will undoubtedly
have its effect with the voters.
Belief in the supernatural is so
prevalent in England that there are
more than 150 manor houses and
castles which are unoccupied be
cause “ghosts” are said to flit abort
the premises.

Back to Prosperity! Spend
Now What You Would Later
Hoarded money retards Prosperity. The soon
er we quit saying “I’ll buy it later” or “It’ll do for
a while” and go into buying action, the sooner bet
ter times will return. Let’s push every idle dollar
into circulation by buying now that which we
would later.
By’doing so, we benefit not only ourselves,
but the unemployed, business in general and the
nation!
And when shopping use this directory of re
liable business and professional men. They are es
