Although only four teams were entered in the af- .air the event did not lack enthus iasm, The visiting teams were loud in their praise for the tournament and promised their whole-hearted support in making the event an an nual affair. We wonder if the people of Gold Hill realise the value of such an af fair to the town. We doubt that ¡hey do but to hear the comment of the boys that took part in the games and the dinner following one begins to realise the far-reach ing effect that it will have in ad vertising this town of ours. Awards were given to Ihe winning teams and individual players. That they will spread the word of Ihe recep tion they received here is a well known fact. Much credit is due those that helped make the tournament a suc cess The ladies of the Gold Hill Garden club are Io be commended for their spirit of cooperation in serving the fine dinner that topped off a successful series of games. We hope the event can again be staged here next year and we know local people can make it a greater thing if they will try. While even the guards were not allowed to carry guns in the jail and no one was ad mitted to the baslile making it im possible for DUlinger to have a real gun, ye« this poor simple guard gets weak and lets out one of the worst criminals in the United States today. We suppose Ihe guard that allowed Ihe killer to escape will soon he pic tured in all the newsreels and papers of the country. Why not put the whole bunch in a show • and make it a monkey show while they are at it Jubilee Committee Looking for Oldest Pioneer W oman in Ore. Efforts are being continued to determine the oldest pioneer woman in Oregon who will reign over Oregon’s Diamond Jubilee Cel ebration in Medford, next June third to ninth, celebrating Oregon’s seventy-fifth birthday. The selec tion of the pioneer will he carried on in cooperation with civic, county and state organisations to render assurance that honors will be be stowed on the right person. A number of names have been submitted and will be given con sideration, along with numerous others expected from different sec tions of the state.
