Independent Town Cage Tournament Planned for Gold Hill March 15-16 Plans for the second annual inde pendent basketball tournament are being made here this week. The evrnt w ill be staged at the high school gymnasium March 15 and IB. Invitations w ill be sent to all in dependent quintet* in Southern Ore gon. There are about 18 good teams in this section of the state and it is hoped that at least a dozen w ill enter the tournament. Among the team* that may send, their fives here are: Spartan A, C., Methodist* and Presbyterian cagers of Ashland, St. Marys, South Methodists and Drop Seats, all of Medford; Central Point, Sams Valley, Applegate CCC, Butte Falls, Canyonville, Glendale, Medford Tiger Cubs, three city league teams from Grants Pass and the Gold HiTT townies. I-ast year a very successful tourn ament was held here and it is hop ed more enthusiasm w ill be shown this year. 867 Arrest* Booked In January by State Police, Report Show» Tourney Here Friday Draws Four Entries Rogue River, Eagle Point Ashland Junior High and Gold Hill Beaver* to Vie for Honor* Here. Plans have been completed for the Gold H ill invitational basketball tournament to be held at the high school gymnasium Friday and Sat urday evenings. Four teams have been entered: Eagle Point, Ashland Junior high Rogue River and Gold H ill. The Medford Tiger Cubs dropped out of the tournament at the last minute, leaving but four teams. The tournament which is spon sored by the Gold H ill Commercial club in cooperation w ith school of ficials is expected to draw a large crowd to the city. Play w ill start Friday evening at 7:30 o’clock, with two games book ed tha^ night Saturday night a doubleheader to decide third place winners and the championship w ill be played. Sec ond place w ill automatically go to the loser of the championship game. Drawings were completed this week, the name* of the teams being drawn from a container and fate alone deciding how the team* should line up. The complete sched ule is printed below. The Gold H ill Garden club co operating with the Commercial club w ill entertain members and coaches of all teams at a feed in the Odd Fellows hall immediately after the championship game Saturday eve ning The state police during January reporied 867 arrests rosulting in levying fines for a total of 89,126, sentence* of 70 years and collec tion of motor traffic fees of 113,- 668 Superintendent Chas. P. Pray announced at Salem Tuesday. In general lay enforcement 255 arrests were made, fines assessed for $1,044 and 66 years sentences. One arrest was for murder. The largest sentences were for larceny under 850, for which 64 arrests were made, resulting in 17 years sentences. The largest fines were for disorderly conduct for a total of 8157 on 18 arrests. Most arrests in the fish and game department were for illegal posses sion of deer, 17 arrests recorded re sulting in two years sentences and 8100 fine.
