It is followed by hundreds of others. To the ordinary observer all the trees look alike—all are tall, straight and seemingly perfect. The least flaw—a burl in the fibre, a slight knot, a twist in the grain—causes instant rejection. The selected lumber is taken to the factory—is placed where all sides will dry evenly — is turned on a regular schedule—is housed in a building designed to permit con trolled fresh air circulation at all times—and, several years after the great tree fell, the wood is ready to be used. This is but a detail in the manufacture of standard fire-fighting appartus, but it’s emblematic of every proc ess, every duty, the creation of every part. From the Gold H ill News of Ashland Depositors For Railway Charge • • • they will have no reason to regret Friday, December 7, 1906 A suit was filed Thursday in Grants Pass by the Southern Pacific railroad against Nathan P. Bussell of Kerby, seeking to secure a judgment in the circuit court to col lect railway charges of $234.95 and demurrage of $51 from the Kerby man for lumber sent to Reno, Ne vada, and refused there by the concern it was billed to. The Southern Pacific listed itself as a Kentucky corporation and de clared that the lumber shipment was made from Waters Creek on No vember 28, 1930, to Reno where the White Pine Lumber Distributors re fused to accept it. It was held on the tracks until December 17 and the present suit is an attempt to secure payment for the transporta tion and demurrage from Russell. W. P. CHISHOLM. M. D. The dividend represents 10 per cent of all com mercial accounts and 15 per cent on savings accounts. The total amount paid to deposi tors to date is $108,427.47. The pro cess of liquidation will continue until the affairs of the bank are closed. Chriitma* Turkey« At Same Prices With the Christmas turkey deal much discussed in the trade in Port land, buyers indicated that the initial advance has been placed at 10c a pound for No. 1 birds, with mediums probably 8 cents, and No. 2 at 5 cents a pound. No price has been set for later shipment, but in general, receivers say that speed in shipping is necessary to obtain the best possible price.
