Three carloads of machinery ar rived this week, and will be set up and operating in about 12 days, ac cording to Chas. Hopper Brown, member of the company who has charge of the gold recovery opera tions. Mr. Skeels. president of the company is also here and offices have been established in the Wing residence. According to Mr. Brown recovery of the gold is done in exactly the same way as on a dredge, but in stead of it being necessary to im pound water to float the dredge, the steam shovel loads the gold bear ing rock into trucks which carry it to the electrically operated recovery- machinery. Two shifts of four or five men will be employed, with a possible third shift if the weather is good. About 700 or 800 yards of earth can be handled each eight- hour shift. Water will be pumped from the Rcgue River for washing the gravel. The yard-and-a-quarter shovel which has been working at Horn brook, California, was shipped via Klamath Falls as it was too big to go through the Siskiyou tunnel on the Shasta division of the Espee. Mr. Brown stated that the com pany was anxious to obtain the mining rights on other properties, also. Among ether mining activity re ported this week is the leasing of the Corporal G mine on the left fork of Sardine creek by Jim Chisholm and Roy Cameron from Dr. W. P. Chisholm. The property is reputedly very rich. Simmons nnd Hughes on Galls have been displaying some samples of rich ore from their claims this week and are making preparations to develop the property. Jim Breeding has started up his mill on Sardine Creek, recently leased from M. S. Johnson, and is handling ore from his Hiway mine between here and Rogue River, as well as doing custom milling for Mr. Taylor who is mining near the Braden property on Kanes creek.
