THE GOLD HILL NEWS THURSDAY, APRIL „>S. 1032 “Pioneer Mother” Statue To Be Unveiled at Eugene U niversity o f Oregon, Eugene. A p ril 26—The serene end of life, as she looks back on the great good that has been accomplished is de picted in A. Phiiuister Proctor's conception of the “ Pioneer Mother." to be unveiled at the U niversity of Oregon on the afternoon of May 7. The statue w ill honor the mother o f Burt Brown Barker, vice presi- 1 dent of the University, who is giv ing the statue to the institution. Mrs. Barker was an old pioneer of , Oregon, fo r many years a resident o f Salem. The pioneer mother has been ’ honored many times in art and ! story, but almost always she has been pictured at the time of her struggle, during the hardhsips of the tra il. Mr. Barker first thought ! of showing her at the time of her life when her struggles were over, and when he presented this idea to Mr. Proctor it found instant fa- j vor, and this statue is the result. Mothers o f Oregon students, old pioneers of Oregon and many oth- j ers w ill be guests of the University at the unveiling ceremony on the south campus. Follow ing the short program, w ill be a banquet at Mc A rthur court. In the evening w it! lie, held the canoe fete, the fost beau tifu , event of Junior Week-end. w hich is to be held at the same time. Mothers and pioneers have been issued a special invitation to attend all the Junior Week-end ac tivities. FOR DISTRICT ATTORNEY I fa t u w t s W8« ttoNVi OH snw : coonm \ h KLLQIM iH tlp .
