W IL L IT HE W \R Over in China there are rumblings of war. Japan and China, arch enemies of manv rears stand ing, are the participants in the big argument which now surrounds the Manchurian situation. Japan has resorted to the use of airplanes and armored fars to establish their rights in the vicinity of Mukden and along the Manchurian railroad. China has appealed her ca$e to the League of Nations and they in turn have asked Japan to withdraw her troops. S Japan does not seem to be in the mood to hurry the e\acuation. Instead that country has sent several warships Chinese waters and the Japanese troops remain in the occupied territory. It looks like a real test for the League of nations. China is torn by internal strife, floods, disease, hunger and poverty and then the ill omen of impending warfare seems too much for any nation to bear and it is hoped bv every peace loving person in the world that the League of nations will be able to establish their rights as an arbiter of arguments between nations. The Imperialism o f Japan has already caused much trouble in the orient and Russia still holds grudges that might, should war c, me out of the struggle, involve that country in the mix-up. Treaty rela tions entered into by Great Britain many vears ago might involve her and from there it is difficult to know where the end might be. Another world wide embroglie might be the result. Is it any wonder that every peaceful citizen is praying that the tense situation in the orient might be amiably settled. ♦ ♦ ♦ GRAPE CONCENTRATES Back in Kansas City there is a test case being made to determine whether or not the grape concentrate which is being sold all over the nation and under the approval of the *ederal government is not in defiance of.the prohibition laws. It was made public recently that the* grape industry received money from the farm board to market their pro duct and now their project is questioned. Salesmen for the producers will tell you that bv add ing water to the mixture and allowing it to work that vine gar will be the result but that if you make a mistake and get yeast into the mixture it will spoil your vinegar and make real wine instead. The extract is sold in any quantity and to anyone who has the money to buy with. W hat a tra vesty is a law which makes it illegal to put that yeast into the concoction which isn’t wtorth a whoop for any other purpose than the making of wine yet the making of the I ... Competition in Fat Stock To Be Keen ♦ A SU PER H IG H W A Y T he call is out for a meeting of the representatives of all people interested in the widening and straightening of the Pacific highway through Oregon. The next meeting will be in Eugene, next Monday and under the auspices of the Eugene chamber of commerce. At this time there will he representatives from all along this great highway in the University city for the pur- I»ose of getting their project before the people of the state and the state highway commission. In three states in this nation and in three nations on this continent the Pacific highway is the outstanding highway and it is fast hear ing toward an international highway which will stretch from the southern part of Chili, South America to the up permost reaches of Alaska. It will he the Main Street of the /Americas, an international road of all importance. In Oregon we must ari ;e to the importance of this highway and see to it that our part of the link which is cer tain to he so far reaching is kept in order. Calif, rnia has completed to our southern boundary a very fine highway which should not terminate there. Our state should take away the short crooks and narrow passages along the Sis- kiyous and over the hills to the north of Grants Pass and give to the motorists a finer, wider highway which will stand as a monument to this state which has alwavs lead in good roads. The meeting in Eugene will bring into' life a new or ganization dedicated to the improvement of the Pacific highway thru Oregon not only by attempting to get it wid cned and straightened hut to have its advantages adver tised and placed bef, re the tourists who long for new scenes to view. The time is ripe for such a step and we feel that every effort should he made to make this movement a success. OUT OF HIS CLASS B ea utifully fitte d Aberdeen Angus heifer "C -en of A ll” .
