Thomas, of Medford, was appointed last week by Gover nor Meier to the office of commis sioner of utilities of the state of Oregon. This office, with Thomas as its head, will supplant the public ser vice commission of three members, which was abolished by the legis lature. Thomas is a ormer circuit judge of Jackson und Josephine counties, and has served in both of the legislative houses. He was born in Iowa in 1877, and was graduated from the University of Iowa in 1897, and entered the practise of law’ in 1898. Locating in Medford in 1912, he served in the lower house of the legislature in 1914 and 1916, and was elected to the senate for one term in 1918. While in the senate he was closely allied with the late Senator George W. Joseph. He was for a time state chairman of the Republican central commit tee. He served one term a» circuit judge of Jackson and Josephine counties, and was defeated in 1928 by H. D. Norton, a Democrat, of Grants Pass. Since that time he has practised law in Medford, where he has been interested in irrigation, and an organizer of irrigation dis tricts. During the last campaign Judge Thomas supported Julius Meier for governor, and was one of his cam paign leaders in Southern Oregon. Lieutenant Governer The matter of lieutenant govern or will be up for vote of the people at the next general or spelful elec tion if a house resolution providing for the same shall be passed at this legislative session. This law will take the form of a constitutional amendment if enacted into law by popular vote. The qualifications of this propos ed officer are the same as those re quired of the Governor. He shall preside over the Senate and act as Governor when the latter is, for any reason, disqualified for the of fice of chief executive. Primary Dates Changed Senate Bill 73 by Bennett, pro vides for change in the dates for holding primary nominating elec tions. Under this measure, on the third Tuesday in May, 1932, and ev ery four years thereafter, and on the third Tuesday in August, 1934, said election shall be held. An accident of serious nature oc curred Monday when Billy Badley young son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Badley fell 15 feet from a tree which grows over Evans Creek. He struck his head upon a rock, fracturing his skull. He was taken to Grants Pass for medical treat ment. but it is not known yet how serious the injury may be.
