message which he was sent to ask, he was asked: Why
don’t you speak for yourself, John?”
Let us take that sentence as a moral for the conduct
of our selves in regards to the community in which we
live. In every community we find people who are too re­
tiring to promote their own welfare. 1 hey are willing to
help a more prominent competitor even to his own injury.
The same attitude is mirrored in the relationship of him­
self to his community. Where this civic lethargy, anti
this business inactivity is found—there is also *oun<l a
nice quiet little city where people are cautioned to close
their mufflers when they drive thru the main thorofares
lest they should wake the dead.
There is no man or woman who lives in a community
who does not owe some service to that community. It is
their duty to render that service and to even make sacri­
fices to give service to the place where they live. It there
'is a citizen in any community who is not willing to lend
assistance to his community in furthering its growth and
the upbuilding of its industries, he is not worthy ot the
position he holds. He should he rebuked hv any progres­
sive citizen whom he might come in contact with. Uhe
solution for a good town is for everyone to get in and
push and disconnect those who are inclined to drag their
feet. If the ones who will not aid the community could
be dropped from it, then you would see it grow and pros­
per hut nothing can be done by the perpetual knocking
of every venture which is proposed.
