Oscar Wicks, for 25 years asso- •iuted with Mr. Ferry in building Ireilges, has arrived from San Fran cisco to supervise the work. Mate rials to be used In Ihe construction will bs-gin arriving this month and will continue until August. It is ex pectcd now that the dredge will be in operation by the first of Septem ber. Mr. Ferry states that no one need apply for work as he already has a greater number of applicants than can be used. One of the features of Mr. Ferry’s work most noticahle to the visitor is his care in preserving the trees espe cially along the county roads and highway, wherever they moke for brnuty and can be enjoyed by the tourist or local motorist. AH along the company’s property, the right- of-way along the county road has been brushed out, the trees trimmed and leaves nnd debris raked up and burned, making a parking that not only beautifies the drive but also ii a saftey protection against, fires starting from cigarettes und matches thrown from passing ears. Similarly in building his four miles of standard construction tele phone line along the Pacific highway from Foots creek to Hock Point, Mr. Ferry issued strict orders to his con tractors to prevent the culling down or multnating of any trees regardless of extra trouble or expense, with the result that not a single tree was cut down in the entire distance. Be cause of this earc, resolutions were sent to the state highway commis sion by the Gold Hill Chamber of Commerce, commending its members for issuing the permit for the line, which not only benefits the whole district served by making telephone service available but also detracts nothing from the beauty of the scen ic drive. i With the Arrival of spring weather be shaped for the dredge..
