Cornwell, superinten dent of the schools here wfes unani mously elected to fill the position at the head of the schools here next year. When he learned of their decision he declined to accent un til he has had opportunity to con sider the matter. It is understood Mr. Cornwell has received an offer of Assistant Superintendent of the Medford Schools, which may have a great deal to do w ith his staying or leaving here. NUMBER 48. Theatre Opening City Accepts Great Success W ater Rights The opening of the Beaver thea tre here by Clarence Shaver, and E. H. Radtke, was a decided success, speaking from box office returns. The equipping of the Beaver thea tre by the two local m»-n is a great advance in the movie show game in Gold H ill. The equipment used in the operating room of the new show is the best ever contemplated here. Tw in projection machines give the audience continual pictures where as form erly the single machine rule here has caused awkw ard delays be tween reels. The schedule of pro ductions booked by the management is good, and many interesting pic tures are listed. The screen on which the“ pictures were projected is a Gold-fibre and gives the most natural impression of any screen in this part of the country. The scenery and stage equipment is the creation of an Artist from Central Point by the name of Fields, who has consented to remain w ith the show this season as musician, supplying the necessary harmony on both organ and piano. The picture on opening night was good and is typical of the rest of the series of attractions booked for this season. The picture advertis ed by Shaver and Radtke for .Sat urday night, March 13, is one of the well known Hoot Gibson variety, “The Arizona Sweepstakes.” ----------0---------- Chinook Entering Mouth o f Rogue Anglers along the Rogue w ill be gin to take down their salmon poles w ith in a few weeks, w ith the an nouncement from Gold Beach that Chinook salmon are now entering the mouth of the river. During the first 5 days of the present month, 24 of the salmon have been picked up in the nets of th e hatchery at Gold Beach and this is taken as an indi cation that the first of the spring run is now in the Rogue and w ill be here w ithin a few weeks. The last of March and the first of April gen erally see the beginning of the sal mon fishing in the Rogue, reaching its prime in A pril and May. Trout season w ill open on April 15, giving the trout fishermen a lon ger wait before they begin to sort over their files and tackle. Reports from the smaller streams indicate that there should be good fishing this season, as the snow is light in the mountains and w ill allow the streams to warm up early. --------- 0--------- After a long siege of warm nights when the fru it tree buds swelled and prepared a banquet for the humming birds, the community was visited w ith a couple of frosts this week that checked the advance and held back the fru it crop until a saf er time. W e have not heard of any damage being done by these frosts but it the fru it gets too far along too early the frosts that are bound to come yet w ill ruin the crop. MT. A letter from County Judge H art zell responding to the City of Gold H ill demand for appointment of a Justice of the Peace, indicated that no such officer would be appointed by the Court and Commissioners, but would w ait until the regular election which means that Gold H ill w ill not have a Justice until January 1, 1927. Official copies of the three w ater rights desired by the City of Gold H ill for their power and water plant were read by the Council and after examination by City Engineer C. W . Martin, approved. This ended a long and expensive struggle to legal ize the holdings of the City, that have been in danger since theCity bought the proposition. ^And, byt this investigation and the conse quent actions of the Council, the tax payers are saved several hun dred dollars in back fees owed by the form er owners of the plant.
