Mr. Shaw was at the tim e of his death

Albert Duane Shaw w as born in
Lyme. Jefferson Comity, Dee. 27, 1S41,
and was educated in Belleville Acade­
my anti Canton I’nlverslty. When 2d
years old he enlisted as a private in
Young Idaho Representative.
G lenn P. M cK inley, speaker of the
Idaho house of representatives, is the
yonugest m em ber of th at body, being
only 22 years old.
He is a student of
the law d ep aitm eu t of the U niversity
of Idaho.

Volunteers, and served two years. In
1863 he w as appointed a special agent
o f the W ar D epartm ent and was s ta ­
tioned at the provost m arshal's head­
q u arte rs until the close of the war.
Colonel Shaw served a term in the
S tate Assembly in 1868 and then en­
tered the consular service, representing
th e U nited S tates first at Toronto in
1868 w hence he w as tran sferre d ten
years later to M anchester. England.
In 1885 he was rem oved by P resident
Cleveland. 'C olonel Shaw in 1896 was
elected departm ent com m ander of the
G. A. R. of New York and in 1899 w as
chosen couiinander-lu-chief. Last No-„
veruber Mr. Shaw w as elected to Con­
gress to fill the unexpired term of
R epresentative C. A. C hiekering and
w as also elected to the Fifty-seventh
Congress.
