In a Missouri court recently a rather
novel case came up tor decision. Dur
ing the civ il war a certain Northern
soldier went into the service, leaving a
young wife at home. In due tim e the
news reached him that his bride had
died and when the war ended he did
not return to his old home, hut settled
out West. He married again, and with
his second wife accumulated a large
amount of pro|>erty in P ratt county.
Not long ago he learned that his first
wife had not died, but, supposing him
to have been k ille d , had married an
other man. This man died, leaving
j her a widow. When the P ratt county
man learned these facts he brought suit
I for divorce, and the woman in the East
j heard of it and went out and fought
the case, asserting a claim to [>art of
the Pratt county m an’s property.
' However, after the lawyers had made
a great fight before him , the judge
granted the divorce and left the P ratt
county man free to marry the woman
who has been living with him for many
years as his w ife.— N. Y . Tribune.
