Steel, of Portland, is intending to raiso a compuny, and go to explore tho caves of Josephine county. A terrible mining disaster occurred last week, at Nanaimo, Nacomus Island, in a coal mine, that caused tho death of 167 white men and seventy-fivo Chinese. Several explosions occurred, causing the roofs of the tunnels to cave, and most of them were killed by the after damp. The living, for whom those white miners earned bread, are forty-fivo widows and 130 orphans. The Umatilla county court hat made J. B. Ray inspector of stock.
