It stands at tho head of all publications of its kind. A filo of tho paper may bo seen at this office and subscriptions received. Ik you owe any amount, we will ap preciate it if you will remit. We depend on tho fall season in which to collect onr dues, and hope we shall not bo disappointed. Letter irrra Miller Hilt Mii.u:n Hill, On., Nov. 25, 1880. Editor Willamette Farmer: While tho rest aro now slaughtering "chicks." nnd trying to mako ready to thank tho Lord at noon for tho many goood things bestowed on us for tho year, I thought I would sit down and consider how ho did it, for you know ho doos things by mcmis, tho same as wo do. Now, wo nil know that in tho be ginning, when the Lord mndo all things and looked around, ho saw tho thing would not work without a man to till tho ground. It makes no difference to us how ho tilled tho ground, but ho worked, and so must wo in this rich valley, and thon tho Lord will givo us this plonty. Now, I will tell you : It will not do to farm on pnpor, nor on shocp, nor theo ries and tnlk. It is old-fashioned, square toed work that must bo done, and then wo will havo something to thank tho Lord for. I will propose a method to tho plainest of men ; lot any fnrmor try tho following plan : Tnko two or threo good fnrm horses nnd a good plow and turn his land ten to twclvo inches deep in tho fall, drain tho Bamo tho best pos sible in tho fall, and bo suro to ketfp off all heavy stock all tho time, and as soon as tho spring favors and ho sees naturo is on tho movo and tho leaves coming out on tho hnzol, then let him take a good cultivator and threo good horses (or two will do), and stir tho ground as dcop nnd lot it lay ono wcok, and thon lot him havo nil things in readiness and thon harrow well and sow immediately, nnd cultivate tho crop in just as deep ns ho can, nnd then follow with a clod smasher, and as soon as ho can, roll with n henvy roller, nnd if ho wishes to tost tho thing, ho enn roll nltornnte lands and await results, and if tho rolled land docs not produco ono-third moro I will givo it up. Now for tho fallow, not sheep; it's work now nnd monoy in tho end. Let tho farmer begin his next year's fallow now ; conduct just tho snmo ns beforo, nnd ns early after Eastor as possible say when hazel leaves aro as largo as a nicklo; go on to thn fallow with a good team nnd a good cultivator, stir the ground deep and harrow well, thon rest a wcok ; then repent tho snmo and clod smash ; then cross both ways ; then plant potatoes, beans and corn four feet each way, covering with tho cultivator, and then roll. Now, then, let tho fanner roll up his slcovos nnd work ; no fooling around nnd fanning on tnlk nnd paper, nnd stay with it "liko death to a dead nigger," nnd, my word for it, thnt mnn mny count on mnking moro money on tho snmo ncrcs thnn any other mnn enn mnko on sheep ; nnd then let him sow tho snmo to fnll whent in tho now moon of Soptcmbcr, nnd ho will havo moro wheat and butter than nnyothor mothod will produco or enn produce. Rut somo will say tho potatoes, corn nnd beans will bo in tho way. Sow in tho crop of all of it, and gathor after; it will not mako a pnrticlo of diffbronco with tho wheat; try it. I dug my potatoes in tho wheat crop this fall, and now a strangor looking on it would not know that thoy had grown therein, and my wheat growing on tho corn ground is as fino looking ns any man ovor Baw any where. I havo lind 212 bushels of po tatoes por aero, and this year 91$ bush els and full CO of corn. Well, I told you I was trying an ex periment on my farming order, and I intend to work it out, if it tnkos fifty years, for I do know that wo, as fann ers, nro not working our land right, and I know that wo havo to compoto with meatmen of tho Eastor fail; wo must do it. I beliovo wo can do it with corn und hogs, as well ns bocf, nnd then mako moro whont, nnd hotter, than can bo raisod nny other way. I object to plowing iu tho snring nfter plowing in tho fall, for naturo builds upon tho sur faco for a crop, ond if wo turn under filth seeds in tho fall, say ton inches deep, and leavo them there, they will not grow. If wo turn them to tho sur faco in tho spring, thoy will grow, and thon wo turn under what naturo has built up on tho surface for fivo months, besides ndding useless labor; for to cul tivate tho soil; a man can averago seven acres per day, and rido all tho time, and benefit by all that naturo has done for him all the winter. Rut it must be work squaro, nnd no moro on paper and hoe ing plowing with sheen, or our mort gages will cat us all out. jlR. a mi eh, it any farmer will do as I havo told in this for fivo years, and turn his produco into meat, ho will have a better home, and ho can pay that mortgage on liko a nothing, and then wo can all have time to look after our fortunes in plums and prunes. It Is now dinner time ; moro some time. Titus. All leadintr natont medicines at Pnrt Drug Co., 100 State street. The Thanksgiving edition of the Mc Minnvillc Reporter, issued by D. C.
