Honey Ginger Snaps. Ono cup of brown sugar, ono cup of extracted bonoy, a tnblespoonful of ground ginger, a cup of melted butter or meat tryings, n tea spoonful of snleratus dissolved in a littlo hot water, nud as much wheat Hour as can bo possibly stirred in, (but not knoadeil). Pinch oil' pieces about tho sizo of a marble, and roll between tho hands. Lcavo spaces between thorn in tbo pan to allow for spreading, llnko in a modornto oven till of a nico brown, and leave in pan till they aro "snappy." In cold woatlier tho materials should bo warmed beforo stirring in tho Hour. They aro porhaps a littlo tougher than if mado of molasses, but good "all tho same." Thoy will " keop," if you koop them off tho tablo and out of roach of tho children. Light Dumplings. Two cups of Hour and while stirring it pour over it just onough boiling wator to wot it all thoroughly. Lot it stand a littlo while, and when cool enough, salt it to tasto, and break into it six eggs. Then stir and beat tho wlwlo mass until it is as smooth as cako dough. Put it immedi atoly into tho boiling soup j by using a small spoon to dip with, kopt wot with tho soup, to provont sticking, tho dump lings will bo small and smooth. Keep tho kottlo closely covered whilo thoy aro cooking, which will bo for fivo or ton minutes, then sorvc. Treated in this way thoy aro light whon cold. Shot for Cloaning. Ono of tho best ' things to clean bottles and small necked pitchers it to tako fiuo shot and put in tho bottlo orpitchortogothorwith warm water or suds and shako thoroughly. It is valuable, elllciont and cheap. Keep shot handy. Buttermilk Biscuit. Ono quart Hour, ono teaspoonful soda sifted thrco times with tho Hour and a teaspoonful melted button Sift Hour, soda and salt into a bowl, stir buttor and milk together and pour into a holo in tho Hour. Mix quickly and with as littlo handling as possible Bo careful on this point, also, not to (ret tho dough too stiff. Have your oven ready and hot. As soon as tho biscuits aro cut out put thorn in and bake. Thoy aro excellent if mixed as tho successful painter did his colors "with brains." A hoavy hand and heavy wits can result in nothing but soddon solidity. Stains on Brass Tho strongest con centrated ammonia will remove stains from old brass when all olso fails. Tho ammonia vapor changes tho brass dur ing tho process of cleaning to n bronzo color, but tho immediate application of tho liquid removes this at once. Graham Tuffs. Sift together ono and a half pints of Graham Hour, one tea spoonful of salt and thrco tcaspoonfuls of baking powder. Mix with this one pint of milk and two well beaten eggs until a smooth batter is obtained. Fill cold, well greased gem pans with tho batter, and bako in u hot oven for ton minutes. Lomon Jelly Cako. Ono cup of sugar mixed with butter tho bio of an gg, ono cup of milk, ono egg well beaten and Hour onough to mako rather stiff, sifted with a heaping teaspoonful of bak ing powder and bako in three jelly cako tins. For tho jelly tako tho juico and grated rind of ono lemon, one small cup sugar, three tcaspoonfuls of corn starch, mixed smoothly with a littlo water and one cup of hot water. Lot all boll to gether until thick and spread on the cakes. This quantity makes two layers. Ventilated Milk Covers. Sew thin cloth over wire rings a littlo larger than the milk pan ; any housekeeper can get tho wire from tho tops of worn out pans, pails etc. Try it, they aro better than board covers or anything ehe. Italian Cream. Rub tho zest of two lemous upon thrco or four lumps of loaf sugar ; stir theso into a pint of rich cream and add enough sugar to sweeten. Whip tho cream with tho juico of ono lemon, straining in ono ounco of gcla tino that has been dissolved in a little water. When thoroughly light flavor to taste, and pour into a mould and freeze. When served garnish with pro served fruit. To Mond Cracks in Stoves. To ono cup of salt add two cups of sifted ashes, Mako a stiff pasto by adding water ; ap ply whilo tho stove is a littlo warm. Peoplo without Tact. Thoro is a good-natured unpopular typo of person whom wo havo all mot, who invariably "roilos" ono up by say ing, "Excuso me, but thcro is a black spot on your faco," or "your coat wrinkles in tho back," or "your dress- seams aro cut crooked," and you go on your way withanuncomfortablo feeling that you aro all wrong, when roally it is tho tactless person who met you who is alono responsible. You would novor havo known of your deficiencies but for him or her. "But," says tho tactless individual, "would you desiro to go about with a smudgo on your fare, or your dress lap- sided, or your coat awry, whon a hint from mo would set it right?" Yes, peoplo who havo thoir faults and blemishes pointod out, aro novor in tho least grateful to tho investigating com mittco of ono sclf-appointod to tell them. And you, sir or madam, do you desiro to bo a valet or maid to your frionds at largo, making thorn over as you would tho lay figuro in a dressmaker's saloon and calling attontion ton singlo blemish, where- thcro wcro a dozen things to praise? And tlioso tactless people must somo times wonder why their frionds shun thorn by keeping resolutely out of their way, rathor than bo picked to pieces with tho kindnoss that kills. Sometimes their remarks aro of an in tonsoly personal naturo, and thoy da light in calling attention to peculiarities to which tho friond with tact would bo doaf and blind. "I saw you tho othor day, and you wcro talking to yoursolf at a groat rato," says ono of tho tactless sort. An old gontloman who was troubled with a facial norvousness was thus ac costcd by a thoughtless girl whon ho visited hor homo : "Tio dolorcaux, What's tho matter with you?" Tho reproof ho gavo hor was not soon forgotten. But thcro is a lower depth to which tho social scavongor descends, and it is this: "I want to toll you something, but you must novor speak of it. Mr. Blank said ho disliked you oxecodingly when ho Hrst mot you, but ho likes you very much indeed, now," otc. Oh, doos he, indoedt Now Mr. Blank has a perfect right to like or dislike tho person in question, but tho contomptiblo part is to bo told of it, and probably ho would nover havo mado tho statement had ho supposed it would havo been re peated. There is n homoly old proverb which applies to tho peoplo who think it thoir dutv to toll ono what another said. It is to tho effect that a dog that will fetch a bono will carry a bono. Thcro is anothor class, tho members of which greet their friends with, "How palo you aro!" or "how thin you havo grown!" "should hardly know you, you aro so changed I" and similar remarks of a death's head and cross-bones nature, which gives ono a tremor of tho nerves aud a fit of speculative blues. From all bucIi tactless, thick-kinned frionds (7) tho fates dofend us! I would rather wear a smudgo on my faco six inches long and not bo conscious of it than encounter ono of tho guild with tho self-satisfied smiio and tho eternal "Excuso me, but there is a black spot," etc. If thoy aro sincere, then I do not admire sincore people. They mako mo uncomfortable. Mrs. 31. Moro Wool ana Less Offal. Tho courso so long followed by most of tho Merino Bhccp breeders has had its certain rosults upon tho wool market. Manufacturers havo boconio sick and tired of purchasing grcaso and dirt, During tho past season such wools as wcro taken from vory fashionable strains of so many years and which consisted of an iminenso amount of yolk and grcaso held together by a modost quan tity of wool, havo boon neglected at from two to fivo cents por pound less than those not near so line, but moro open and having a much smaller pro portion of waste. It is not that tho lino wool is not wanted, but that tho u.-or wants wool more than olTal. Wo aro ovidontly on tho evo of hotter times for tho sheep growor, and is not this a cap ital timo forMcrino breeders to consider tho matter and make u radical changoT Why not breed for a few lo-s wrinkles, loss groaso and moro wool? I am glad that a few breeders aro looking in this direction, and that such wools aro being sought for at tho highost prico. I hopo tho juiges at all tho fairs will dincriiuin ato largoly in favor of long, clean f taplo in weighing Merino. Tho Merino is a noblo sheep, tho prido of tho Amoiican breeder, but thoro is no reason why ho cannot bo greatly improved if bred with this end carefully in viow. Corn of tho X. Y. Tribune. Women and Literature Women havo gono largely into jour nalism, aud with much hiicceos; but it must bo rememliered that journalism is not literature, though it belongs to the 8.imo genius, and maybe quite as im portant. Journalism is tolltoraturo(to use a cullinary comparison) as are broakfjst griddle cakes to a loaf of bread. Tho former aro to bo oaten hot, or not at all) whilo tho bread only im proves by a day or two's keeping. Tho samo cook may happen to excel in both, but it is a combination of two diilerent gifts, and cannot safely be counted on.
