Dormancy In Oranges Tho Htrongost reason why U ranges becomo dormant is to bo found In tho fact that tho agricultural clnseos nro not 6u(llciently educated to eco nnd fully np procinto tho Importance of tholr cause. Thoro 1b no difficulty in organizing pro fessional and businceH men, becaueo thoy eco tho valuo at onco of such organiza tion. It will bo admitted that tho mer chants nnd tho professions generally en joy a culture and training farsuporior to thnt of farmors. Wo will put n lack of culturo thon nmong mombore ol tho Granges, as ono of tho strongest causes of dormaucy. Givo tlicm tho sfttno men tal training nsothor' organization! nnd dormancy would eoldom or never occur. Want of appreciation 9! tho import ance of tho farmer's causo is another road to tuo nloop or death of GrangOB. Wo cannot boo bow a brother or ulster alivo to tho great vnlno of harmonious action nnd co-operation to our class could abandon it ; it would bo likq mak ing no offort to cscapo the Worm whon tho dark nnd tbroatoning clouds conio sweeping across tho sky. Tho admit tance of improper persons into.. tho Grango at tho timo of organization ban, in many casos, led Io disconBions nnd divisions among tho membership that llnnlly ended in tearing tho organiza tion to pieces. Another causo of dormancy and ono that has strewn tho Stntos from Atlan tic to Pacific with tho wrecks of prom ising Grnngos, was, and is, lack of at tendance, carelessness in meeting "on time," at each call during the twelvo months of tho ycor. A faithful minori ty of members will becomo discouraged at tho persistent failuro to form a quo rum nnd will ov,ontually givo it up. Want of pluck nnd enthusiasm has killed ecoroa of Granges. Tho followers of Mo homot, by closo organization and enthu siasm, carried their victorious arms from desert Arabia into Asia, Africa and Europe, well nigh making themselves master of n continent. To pro vent dormancy nnd restore thoso to llfo already !ccomo so, wo think that education, a hearty appreciation of tho great importnnco of our cause, with tho actlvo corporation of ofllcors and mombors in Grango work will do won dora toward placing our ordor in tho front rank of all organizations having for thcitvobjoct tho clovation and im provement of mankind. U. F. Gn in Grango Bulletin. Tba Orange -Its Past, Preient and Future. Thoro is suroly good enough in tho ordor to merit bettor treatment than it has received. It baa advanced tho causo of tho farmer in many ways ; tbcro is an improvement in his manners, dress and appearanco, and in his increased intelli gence, lao mooting togemer nnu min gling with members of different granges, tho intorchango of thought and scnti mont cannot but exert an influouce for good. Wo noticed in tho Grange Bulletin that some ono blames the Bisters for tho low condition of tho Grango ; they do not attond or tako part in tho work as thoy should. (You know thnt has been man a plea and subterfuge ever since Adam's time if anything goesrong blame tho woman.) Bat, seriously, tho bisters have not taken the interest in tbo ordor they ought Ludlow Grango is very evenly dividod, and yet tho broth ers are always in tbo majority yet tho sisters attend a great deal better than in tho past If all farmers had beon Pa trons, thoro would not have beon so much Bohemian oats and rod lino wheat sold or, at least, if thoy went into it thoy could not plead ignorance as an excuse, We hardly pick op a paper bat what we read of- such swindle per petrated on the farmer. Is there not need of more Grange work? Whenever the members got to work in earnest there will bo snch'nn interest aroused as has never been sectf; wo will not have to urgo pontons to Jointhey will do tho asking, nnd wo shall hnvc them knock ing for admission nt every mooting. The work tho Grange don to-day will bo felt in tho future ; theivfoio wo Miauld mark out a lino of work that will on-, lighten us well us cutortiiin. Of course wo fill up the time, but aro there not subjects that might bo discussed with moro ndvantogn to all of lis Tho Worthy Lecturers of both tho Stato and National Granges havo furnished sub jects for the Subordinate Granges (somo of them very important) that havo been entirely ignored. Moro Grango litenv turo ought to bo road. j&oultrji. Cholera and Its ttemedy. Wo tako tho following from tho N'ow Industry or Thoroughbrod Poultry South : ' , Cholera is tho hydra of tho poultry yard, tho most rapidly fatal of all dis eases that fowls aro heir to. Preven tives aro better than cures. I liavo had no ditioaso of any kind in my yards for sovon years. Tho reason it, because- of my uso of preventives. I givo two anti dotes herewith. Bo guided by them and yon will not havo tho disease Tho best known euro, so far coming to my knowl odgo is tho following: Salphatoof iron, 1 ounce; Cayonno pepper, !J ounces; extract of nloes,'$ounco gum camphor, 3 ounco; extract of hemlock, ounco; ncotijtp, ounco; blue mws, ounco. Mako into 2-graiu pills and givo it pill three timi's n day, at G a. m., 12 m. and 7 11 r i'ir nlllii will enroll nflVftL'n.' mirn ) "-." . .. . '. . "-,7 01 tne dieoiieo ; uui 11 n iowi nan -ft csiso of any long standing it never fully re covers its original vigor, hence preven tives are tho best to uso. In eds'o of disoiiso; separate tho sick from tho well at onco, nnd II 'not an extra fino bird kill at onco, clcanso tho houso thoroughly, spado or plow 'up tho run, fumigAto with carbolic acid and sulphur, whitewash with Hmo and copperas, and ventilate thoroughly. It your neighbors have cholera among their fowls, quaran tine. Thcro has as'yot been no specific discovorcd.' I nttributo my success to preventives, nnd nmong thorn my sani tary measuros. Among tho preventives I uso this : Uso a vessol (iron prefer red) holding about n quart of water (rain water preferred) and dissolve about an ounco of blucstono in it; then tako a quart of wheat, rye, barloy or clacked corn, and lot it soak in tho solution over night nnd feed it to tho fowls it will bo enough for twenty chickens or twolvo tarkoys. If fed to a sick fowl, a tea spoonful ovcry throo hours for twolvo hours, will otton givo relief. If fed onco or twico a month to fowln it is a good proventivo of disease. This is n eimplo romedy and within reach of all. Fowls will pny for all tho euro given thorn. Turkey Talk. A correspondent of Colorado Farmer says : "Ten years' experionco has taught us how to manago young turkoys abont as follows. I say us, for what success wo havo had in raising tho young is largoly duo to aid from my bettor half: Wo sot tho turkey eggs undor common lions, nine to n nest, allowing tho young poults to remain in tho nest twenty-four to thirty-six hours after hatching. Then remove tbo hen and brood to a vormin proof coop ; confino for tbrco days, then allow lion and brood unlimited range 1 Shut them in about sundown and open soon after sunriso ; feed little and often tho first fow weeks; hard loiled eggs mixed with oatmeal or stalo broad crumbs for two or threo days, then curd mixed with broad crumbs, dandelion loavos nr onion tops. Aftor ten days somo cracked grain might bo added. At six woeks feed them any of the small grains, not omitting greon food and tho feed mixed with curd in; occasionally dust in tho food charcoal, sulphur or bono meal. When nearly grown feed all tho small grains and plenty of cab bage, cucumber or any other green food. To fatten feed plenty of. corn or boiled barley, also a cooked mush mado of corn meal, or raw corn chop and bran mixed with Bkimmod milk. Don't for got to feed charcoal. Don't coop to fat ten. Nothing frets a turkoy like con finement Bronzo tarkoys if abundantly fed, will range but littlo and fatten quickly. Keop tho young poults free from licet chills nnd wet weather." fertile Eggs. Goese usually pair, though an extra gooso will bo accepted by tuo gander if she has no mate. Guineas also pair and mate. The drake will take four or five ducks to his care, bat fn confinement the number may bo increaeed. A singlo union of a gobbler and hen turkey fer tilizes nil tho eggs for that season, or ratbor for that clutch. If tho turkoy hen ects, and after hatching bogins to lay, sho should again bo placed with a gobbler. , It is conceded thnt eggs from tho barn-yard hen becomo fcrtilo on tho fifth day after iho has boon mated with the cock, and tho. eggs will sometimes hatch after the cook has been removed for a week or ton days. This depends, however, upon tho position of the ojjgs in tbo ovary, nnd tbo duration of tbo timo tho lion has been laying. No injurious effects can follow thn uso of Ayor's Aguo Curo in malnrial dis eases. It cnutains n specific and unfail ing nntidoto for rainsmatio poisons, with remedial agents which oxpol tho poison ous humors, purify tho system, nnd lcavo it healthy and invigorated.
