A CHILD'S MIQHT TaOUaHTS.
Tbey put her to bed in the. darkness,
And bada her bo quiet and good J
lint alio aobhed in tho silenco and trembled,
Thougli alio tried to bo bravo as nho could.
For tho night was o rcnl, so awful!
A mystery doting around,
Llko tho walls of the deep, deep dungeon,
That hid her from itgm and found.
Ho stifling, 10 empty, so tlroary
That horror of loneliness black)
Sho fell asleop, moaning and fearing
That morning would never oomo back,
A baby mutt bear its own Borrow,
Hinuo nono understands it aright ;
Hut at last, from her bosom was lilted
That tcrriblo fear of tho night.
Ouo oveniag, tho hsmls that undressed her
Led her out ol tho door closo by,
And bado hnr look up for a moment
Up into the wonderful iky,
Whoro tho platiota and aouatellationa,
Hoop-rooted in darkucis, grow
Like bloiaoms from black earth blooming,
All aparkllng with ailvcry dow.
It soomod to bond down to mcot her,
That luminous purplo domo ;
Sho was caught up into a glory,
Where hor baity-heart was at home j
Llko a child in its father' garden,
Aa glad aa a child could bo ;
In the feeling of perfect protection
And limitless liberty.
And tliis had been all around her,
While sho shuddered nlono In bed!

And alio aiuk into sound chlld-slumbcr,
All folded in splendor high,
All happy and soothod with blessing
Drontlied out of tho hcirt of tho sky.
And In drcnmi hor light, swift footsteps
Thoso inflnlto spaces trod,
A fearless little explorer
Of tho paths that lead up to (lod.
Tho darknets now Mas no dungeon,

And tho night was n vision of froodom
A prcsonco of heavenly poaco.
And I doubt not that in like manner .

"Mrs.Movburnt"
"Yos, l'hflo."

"I don't wnnt tho slippers with tho

"If you had looked around, my

"Hut I don't want to look around!"
And Mr. Mnyburno unfolded tho sheet

Tho next evening Mr. Maybumo

"No light?" lie demandod, queru

"Tho firo out!" I'hilo htood aghast,
"Hut why didn't you have it kindled up

"Kvervthing gooi wrong," grumbled

'Oh, heio it is, baok of tho door,"

"Then why didn't you look there be

Mr. Mnyburno found it convenient not
to hear, but poked tho tiro diligently.
"Thoro you go, scattering ashes all
over the velvet rug," said Josio, tartly.
Mr. Mnylmruo chocked himself and
sat down, shivering, in n rocking-chair.
"I wish you would slop creaking thnt

"Thoro'a tho bell now," said Phifo,

Tho dimples hnd como back to Josio's

looked bowildorod.
"Hut, my dear, what do von mean?"
"I'hilo," said Mrs. Mnyburno, calmly,
"you havo only been looking into a looking-glass."
"Into 11 looking-glass, my denr?"
"Kxnctly so. During tho Inst hour

Another silenco ensued, and then Mr.

"Josie, nobody shall over seo mo ngain

I'hilo Mnyburno kopt his word, nnd to
