TitunbUAV, May 8. Tho weather has become warmer, though often cloudy with wind south erly. i-armcrs havo tnoir spring crops in and everything grows finely. Tho warmer days favor the wheat that was turning yellow and will bo suitable to gardens im woll as grain fields. If we havo showers in seasonable way for Mav and Juno thcro will bo no de fault in tho harvest If we havo not good crops in 1881 wo nocd novor ox poet thorn. Foliage has developed so woll that frost can hardly injure fiuit prospects it it should coino, and it is now late for frosty weather to striko us. During tho week tho foreign wheat market has weakoned a little, to tho ex tent of bix poncoou aqunrtorof 500 lbs., though still considerably bettor than a month ago. Thoro is nothing to baso an opinion on as to tho prospects for futuie prices. Valloy wheat is wot tit $1.47J to $1.50 per cental at Portland, but no tiausac tiona of consequence are reported j.ut'10 are no buyers in market ami any quotations are merely nominal. Thoso who hold wheat doclino to sell at offer ing in tos, and the oonequuneo is noth ing is doius Considerable wheat has Uh.ii tuken to San Fraiioisro hy utoaincr and shipped thei-u. Tho last steamer carried 500 tons of Hour. uIko for ship ment abroad. Oat are in (nil supply and values rather depressed. . Quotations remain 4S to 50 cts. Wool comes freely fixmi ka. of tho Cascades, but is sent to San Francisco, much ot it being of the old clip. Little of this year's product is yet received. Two grading housos nro ready (or busi nous, nnd try to oiler inducements for wool-growers to work with them. Choico wools will now bring 18 to 20o. Tho latest quotations from San Fran cisco rIvo tho rango (or Oregon wools as l(i20c. It is not easy to see what in ducement there can bo (or peoplo who grow wool East of tho Mountains to ship to California, when they have direct overland traffic at their own door. No doubt tho prvfont course of the wool trade ia duo to tho fact that San Fran cisco houses haw been dealing with It was a cow, with mild brown eyes, auburn bangs and a tail with looso lock on tho end, that switched the air and and knocked imaginary flics into the hereafter with a snap. She was being led down West stroet toward tho Cort land street ferry by a ferocious-looking Jeisoyman, whoso complexion, owing to tho cold weather and hot whiskey, was red as a meteoric sunset. Suddenly, with what was apparently unnecessary cruelty, tho Jersoyman struck tho cow across tho flank with a club, swung his aims over his head, danced a maddening doublo slmlllo in tho street, and sat down with rapidity upon a car-rail. Tho cow looked over her shoulder reprovingly, and stood in her tracks. Tho Jorsoyman arose from the impression no nau niauo upon tho ico. smoothed his coat-tails caressingly, and started toward tho cow. lie rapped her onco, spat upon his hands, rapped her again, put his shoulder against her aide all to move hor from the track of tho drays but to no avail. A crowd assembled. The Jersoyman got lota of sympathy but no assistance. One -man suggested that shohad frozen fast; another that sho was undecided about tho policy of the new board of alderman ; third that sho was ono of II. O. T.'s unbslancod bids and was afraid of Jersey justice. Tho owner went a few yards ahead, grinned ft ghastly grin, nnd shaking his club behind him in u suppressed fury, pleaded in persuasive tones; "Come, Mooly Come, Mooly Mooly." Hut Mooly saw the club. At last from tho crowd stepped a lank and unshaven specimen of a 'longshore man. Ho was gifted with a wisdom U juud his Kin. I. Ho drew the owner of thiicowiisiilu and whipoud inhUeiu, 'T ist hor tail." The Jersoyman shook head. Then, at though bidding for tho support of tho multitude, tho 'longshore man raised his arm and making a sweep ing gesture, exclaimed : fcuent8, I says twist hor UN." "Twist it ycrself," was tho answer. A glance of scorn ujwn the crowd, ami me longshoreman oared his brawnv arm and stepped up to the cow. He took tho lovelock in his hand, ran his lingers through it and cliuched thorn, grasped tho middle of the tail with his left hand and tried to tio a knot. An agonising silence, which was broken by a groan and dotted with n broad brimmed hat, a pair of suspenders and tho arms and tho legs of a 'longshoreman doiug calistenics in the frost air. The battered remains ot tho 'logshoreman woro enrriod away muttering blasphemy. Tho cow, after she had replaced her hind hoofs on tho ground, was led on to tho ferry bv the Jersymau, who observed, as ho paid his fare : "Takes more'n a Yorker to learn mo Iojsous."
