W.LLAMETTK pm- PORTLAND. OREGON, OCTOBER 26, 183. 4 i Mr. Thompson nd the Bull-frog. Mr. Thompson wni lying in t!tlndo on tho hank of u small 'wiul. Ho liml como out to read, ho said, hut no booncr bad ho thrown himself on tho soft turf than an irrosistiblo dcpiro to hlrcp camu upon him ; to pillowing his head on hiH hook, ho closed his oven. "Ctit-u-kn-dmnk, cut-a-ka-chunk,' cronked a hig gioon frog down in the pond. "I wish you'd keep still," growled Mr. Thompson. "Ho's-goin'-to-bleei), he's-he's-goiu'-to-alrcp," answered the frog in a dee) bass voice. Mr. Thompson was getting angry. 'I'm not asleep," ho shouted. " )on't-you-get-mad, don't-you-got-mad," urged tho frog. This was too much. Mr. Thompson snt up and looked around. Directly in front of iim, in tho nlgo of tho pond, .sat n great hull-fiog, dressed in a giecn coat, a canary-colored vest, and dark brown kneo-hreeches. Ho winked at Mr. Thompson nociiihly, and iemarked,"How-do-you-do? how-do-you-do? how-do-you-do?" 'Trotty well," unHwercd Mr. Thomn 80 n, "hut I'm vory sleepy." "Como-take-a-swim," advised the frog, laconically. "I would," said Mr. Thompson, hesita ting, "only I'm afruid I'd got wet and Hpoil my clothes." "Novor-htirte-niine, novor-hurts-mino," answered tho frog, jumping into tho pond imil taking a fow strokos. "Hut yon soo my clothes aro not liko youns" oxplained Mr. Thompson. "Look-just-tlio-siimi, look-just-tho-Hntnc," answered the frog. Mr. Thompson looked down at his vest; tho white had changed to lomon color;hiH Hohor black pants worn meta morphosed into natty snull'-colored kneo liroochcH, and, worst of all, his alpaca duster had beconio a tight groan cut away coat. ''If Angelina should seo mo in this rig, what would sho say?" murmured Mr. Thomp-on, in despairing tones. "Hottor-como-in, bettor como in," cloaked tho frog, with something liko a uinilii on his broad mouth. "I guuirt I will," thought Mr. Thomp son, and plunging head first ho dived into tho pond. Ho toon camo up with his mouth full of mud. That, of course, unnoted him, hut ho was moro iutor fsted in how tho mud got into hm mouth, for, diving as ho did, ho should havo truck tho top of his head. Ho put his hand up to feel. Hoirorl instead of touching tho top of his head, ho thriiHt hiH hand in his mouth. Ho felt again; his mouth was on top of his head. Ho climbed up on a lily pad, and looked at his reuVtinn in tho water. Ho could hardly helioe his eyes; thero wiih no Mr. Thonipxon. only a gieat green and yellow frog. Tho other frog was sitting not far oil", watching him with an air of muuscmcut. "Tlimu aro some boys on tho bridge, and they aro going to tlnow stones ut us," whispeied tho old frog. Mr. Thomp son foigot his sudden chango of appear iiueo, and ussuming his nut pompous nlnnnor, ho shouted' "You-musn't-do-thrit, you-nmsn't-do-that." ''You old fool," bellowed tho frog, as ho plungod into tho water. cMr. Thompson thought disoriitioa to bo tho better pint of valor, and followed. "He's gone under," remarked ono of tho boyw, regretfully. "Wouldn't ho hao imulo a splendid fiy?" Mr. Thompson roo with his noso un tier a lily pad and shuddered. His friend ciiiiio up iiCHiuo mm. "tiiim urn von want to speak for when those hoys were there? You only let them know whero wo woie," ho said' rather eiossly. "Thatis tlie reason wo wear giecn coats, so that wo can sit among tho lily pads and not Im) seen." Mr. Thompson replied that ho hiul for got him-jolfj and t,ioku without think ing. "So tlmt'H the leason for wearing given coats''' he added. "Yes," limited the old fug. "Now yn see mj son heie wears brown long clothe.-," ho added, (Minting to a pollj wog that wiggletl up to him ' That is Ikvuiiko ho stays on the bottom, and if ho irfiN a Ikv, ho keeps Mill, and his eno mie think that ho is a lump of mud or s, stone. STRENGTH to vigorously push a business, strength to study a profession, strength to regulate a household, strength to do a day's labor with out physical pain. All this repre sents what Is wanted, in the often heard expression, "Oh! I wish I had the strength!" If you are broken down, have not energy, or feel as If life was hardly worth liv ing, you can be relieved and re stored to robust health and strength by taking BROWN'S IRON BIT TERS, which is a true tonic a medicine universally recommended for all wasting diseases. 501 N Fremont St., Baltimore During the war I was in juredin the stomach by apiece of a shell, and have suffered from it ever since. About four yearsagoit brought onparaly sis, which kept me in bed six months, and the best doctors in the city said I could not live. I suffered fearfully from indigestion, and for over two years could not eat solid food and for a large portion of the time was unable to retain even liquid nourishment. I tried Brown's Iron Bitters and now after taking two bottles I am able to get up and go around and am rapidly improving. G. Decker. BROWN'S IRON BITTERS Is a complete and sure remedy for Indigestion, Dyspepsia, Malaria, Weakness and all diseases requir ing a true, reliable, non-alcoholic tonic. It enriches the blood, gives new life to the muscles and tone to the nerves. DB. JAYNE'S AGUE MIXTURE. A CERTAIN AND EFFECTUAL REMEDY FOR Fever and Ague, Intermittent anil Itemittent Fevers, c. This class of diseases so common in all parts of tho World, and cspocially prevalent in ma larious districts and vicinage of water-courses, are almost invariably accompanied by mora or less derangement of the lit er, and frequently by a dcfectU e action of tho dlgesth e organs. The mero breaking of the Chill is but a step towards completing a radical cure; tho various organs of the body, especially tho stomach and liver, tnuBt be brought to a healthy and rigor qus condition beforo a permanent curs can bo established, and this fact has been specially kept in view by Dr. Jayne in his treatment of tbes oouiplalnti. The use of Jayne's Ague Mirturo, In conjunction with Jayno's Sanative Pills, ns proscribed In the DIreetions which accompany each bottle, will not only BREAK UP THE CHILLS, but restore the system, more particularly the liver and stomach, to a sound condition, and so prevent a rclapso of Fever and Ague by thor oughly ERADICATING THE DISEASE, and the best evidence of this is tho invariable success which has always followed the admin istration of these remedies, as attested by the certificates published annually in Dr. Jayne's Almanac, and the wide-spread popularity of the Aguo Mixture In those districts of the United States, where the diseases, for which it ll idapted, most prevail.
