The country is now obliged to meet tlio groat busiinj'9 clmngo that follows from the completion of tlio Northern Pacific highway. From knowledge ob tained of tlio rates charged wo perceive that the opening of this routo is n groat gain, for it brings staples of lifo fiom all Eastern points at a much less co.st than our mcrchantH havo over paid before, and at a price as low as wo have any right to ask. This will greatly benefit our people and with the .-harp competi tion Hiiro to come from tho presence of Eastern agents hero and that will ariso between our own merchants it will ma terially advantago tho public. Xow, if Villard will convey wheat to Europe, by means of his railroad and the great lakes, at a price that will let farmers live, then we shall havo nothing loft to worry about. Apples nnd pears range in price from 75c(g,$1.20 "? bushel, according to quality. Green fruit comes in sufficent for local needs. Dairy produces aro well up. Choice roll butter is worth 4()45c "j? lb, and other kinds in proportion. Eggs are 15c f) doz. and not plenty. Dried fruit is in demand and Oregon products hell higher than California fruit. Our dealers do all they can to give homo products a preference. As our prico list shows, bacon and lard aro marked lower. Pork has boon quoted by mistako higher than it should be for live weight. The wheat market remains without ohango; foreign advices complain of ex ceeding dullnocs. Stocks aro kept full and no ohango can bo expected for months to come. There has been no change in fmeign advices for a mouth back to materially change tho maiket here. Vulloy wheat is quoted at .f 1.00 par cental, and Eastern at $ lr0or i.f5. Tho weakening of freights ought to put up their prices a little. Considerable wheat is coining down Urn Columbia river and but little is mov ing in this valley. j Tho piiucip.il item for this week re lates to (ho effect produced by the open mg of (ho Northern l'noilio road. RKtrrv. ctW New York Wool Market. The U. S. Economist of the October 5th, says : Tho demand continues for all'goocl grades of wool and such wool as blood combing and 3-8 combing and clothing aro quito sold up, and stocks may bo said to bo practically exhausted for the time being or until supplies come forward from tho country districts, whero somoof these sorts of wool yet remain in stocV, but at tho seaboard the selection of such wools aro now scarco anywhere. Of low Texas and California some considerable has ehanged hands nt concession in prices, as must bo tho caso in all kinds of poor wool, which is the caso at tho London sales. Poor wool goes down everywhere whilo good sorts maintain a Blight ad vance, and such has been the condition of tho market for some timo past, nnd is likely to continuo so for a long timo ahead. Tho fact is, masses aro getting lietter grades of clothing and rejecting the old rubbish sorts which were matio of corton and shoddy and hair nnd printed with u pattern. They now want all-wool fabrics and good kinds at that, and thotio mills which produce such goods aro all well and profitably em ployed, whilo mills making the other kind aro out of work, and no way is this hotter reflected than in tho wool market, where wo find as wo havo said all good grades well bought up, while low sorts remain unsought for, oven at low prices. Some considerable wool in San Fran cisco has changed hands of Into at a re duction m price, and out lots ol ioaa havo also. Thero is bomo small demand for Texas and California fall wool, but at low prices. "No You Havkn't!" A customer ask ed a druggist in tho city of San Jouo, Cal., for a liottlo of Amnion's Cough Syrup.
