so that the damage done by winter frots
is compensated for. The dead whoat
was re-sown and has pro-percd abund
antly. The pro-jK'ct for crops is more
than fair nil through Kuroican countries.
Prc-pocts for a low price now are conced
ed as mcM jnolwhlo. Freights rule rather
high. .Sixty-five shillings is thepievailing
rate for cliaiters all through the year and
to January 1881. It mutt bo conceded
that the woild's hane-ts promi-e well,
even though thoio is slid to lie 11 prevail
ing deficiency "tluough the wheat states
of our own land, ea-t of the Kooky
Mountain".
The wool market, nlo, is down and
liable to loiiiain low. Ka-tern wools sell
at 1 1 et. to 20 cK As yet little valley
wool is in maiket. The probable price
for Milloy is given as Hi to 20 cts. and
Umpqua wools may rcacli 23 cts. We
ad vio wool growers to wait and see what
will turn up. Thoy cannot lose much
and may gain something.
Reports from XewYoik and the Kn-t
speak of overproduction of woolens and
overstocks of goods. It is said that
heavy sales of cassimcrs have Ihjcii made
at 25 per cent off of regular rnte",Tliis
is the outlook and it is not favorable to
any sudden advance in wool, or "boom"
of that valuable- staple.
The. hop market shows no particular
activity, ImVtho piopects for n good
round price is fluttering, and already
twenty-seven cents has been oU'eiod.
When it is taken into consideration that
ten cents is n fair equivalent for hops, and
a price at which money can bo made by
curing, it is 110 use denying that there is
a great future in store for our hop grow
ers. A late copy of 11 Puget Sound journal
contains the following regarding the prol
nhlo yield in King and Pierce counties.
The extract in question is as follows ;
Taken together Pierce and King coun
ties will piobably ooiiip.uefavoiably with
tho-o of any other two counties in the
I'nited States engaged in this culture,
.iggregating some 1,700 aoies of hop
which, at tho aveiago yield of 1,00(
pounds an acio for old and now liold
would amount to a total harvest of
2,ri.r)."i,000 pound". Dealers aie ready and
anxious to niako contracts at twenty
seven cents, but most of the growers pil
fer to take tho chances until tho harvest
f-ast year at this time few or no hops had
boon contracted for, and as late as Julj
largo Holds worooH'orod for 25 cents.
Theie aru hut few changes in tho local
maikets.and they wilWw found eomploti

THE VICTOR MOWER
Manufactured Ity
JUDSON MANUFACTURING CO.,
OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
REASONS FOR BUYING THE VICTOR :
Its Simplicity, Strength, Durability, Ease of Draft, Con
venience in Using.
It Is simple becsuse ot the small amount of gearing and the few parts in construction.
Doing aay with the Joint at end ot cutting box keeping pitman and knife alajs in lino.
Using the shaft as the hinge ia folding the bar.
Strong because of the size and quality of material used In Its construction.
Durable because of the new appllsnces used to avoid friction and wear In pitman connection; rerolrtng
gun.mettle boxes, etc.
Pitman and knife work on a lerel, saving much friction, and are always in Una even when the bar U
folded up.
Light draft because the cuttlne bar is drawn by means of our Compound-draft Attachment. Connected dt
chain direct to frame near tho shoe Instead of bel ur pu.hed ahead of axle. Also, because so much friction U
done aay with by running pitman level with knife Instead of at an angle of forty-fire degrees.
Convenient because one can raise the bar over obstructions or fold It without getting off of seat or throwing
out of gear, and it does not choke when dropped back into the grass as it W in motion.
For simplicltv of constructing which insures strength and durability, for ease of draft and management, for
beauty of model and cheapness, the Victor is offered to tho public as unrivaled.
For Circular, etc., address K. W. Miles, south side of Yamhill street, Portland.
