Another week of ram and stoim, lit stiong eontrast with tliu gentle rains of No ember. But December has thiee (ourths gone from us, and the tempcutiiro hut Ken so warm that no fiosts Invu fallen to our know ledge, though there may have Ik en frosts East of the Mountains, cvny where fill rain is growing beautifully. A few days longer, anil we p.iks over the dangerous time, for it is noticeable that our frosts and snows come with th holi days. If wo enter January ithout a change, we may hope for a mild winter. California seems not to have participated in our down pour. It is reinarkablo if wo shall pass through such a steidy period of excessive rain aud California eirapi. Early rains camu 1 there to start the grasses and sprout eaily own grain, but it did not continue. They have not suffered for rain us yet. All the woild is green, but they lie-in to feel anxious lest rain may nut come lullicient to bring good crops. So far, since hsrvrst; wheat receipts havo been disappointing to shipKsrs. Thiough this Taller it is suppose d that considerable grain is yet back, chiefly held by those who are not compelled to sell. Vessels come here ami have to be loaded, so cargoes are purchased to Gil them. Importers cniupUiu there is nothing In it, that they do not buy but merely work on commission. This is commonly the case. uplith markets are dull, but prices are low and merely remain stationary. K there had been any rush to sell wheat the price of ships would have anered to It, but there has not and freights are down to tOsfor wootltn ships, while iron are nominal at 50a. In California freights are so low that there is not much in ducement for ships to load cargoes. If it were certain that the next ban rat would be eqtiul ' to that two years ago, they would all wail and take chalices. Willi us wheat comes, by urging, to lo.ul hips that arrive, but there is no exeesi. If this state ol things contnr:rs until February and Match wo shall have all the ship we need without drawing on California, As it is ateamers take Rood cargoes to San Fraucisco twic n week. Wheat has advanced somewhat during the fi4t week, On Monday and Tue'day us high a $1 "Opcr cental was paid, equal to SO cents a bushel, at Roaeburg. Tanners will feel roore like unloading now than heretofore. As it 1 the wheal now remaiuing iu the country all in hands able to hold. The O, It, k X. C. hai brought down aiuce harvest couumuced fifty thousand tons of wheat aud flour, and there is no great tock remaining. The Upper country hat to feed cevcrat largo annua of hdwrets employed lushing railroad work, lWsMve this we have lens o thoutautls of1 new couieis tii feed and tiundreds of thousands of acres to ha seeded each year, in additiou to former work. This all requires home supply, and prevent grain from coming down the river to be eiportcd. The exports from the crop of 1882 will be uriously diminished from what was sntici pitcd. In pait this is due to shortage of crop, nil ill other put to incrcaing demand at home. The prefcnt pi ice ouaht to afT.ird some i.ri.fit. 1 he prospeclhc yield for 1SS3 otters ..mc reward, tven at that figure, because the ,'iintry never hal n Hmr outlook. All arm product, throu. bout the whole Pacific Vorthwtst, beir.igood price, and ahoulillie worth sometl i ig to the piodut-r. One great fault that they can only blame themselves for, if t .at formers luve no organization by mews f wlmli to co-ope ate and proUct their own int. rests. If they could put all their product ..ii theimrUtw limit competing against each tl.er, tl ty would noon ftel the dilfcrcnce in betttr cadi accounts. LOCAL MAKKETS. Reviewed and corrected weekly by J. B. Knapp, produce commission dealer, 267 First street, Portland, Oregon. Wheat No change since last week, re cent advance in wheat has been caused by a fall in freights rather than any advan 'es in the toreign markets, and as freights are now be lieved to be at very lnw living figures, it ii notprobilb that wheat will make any fur- tin 1 mater al alliances. Oats Are quiet, supply ample for present wants. Piuci rangiug mostly at 03. per bushel. Potatoes No change. The supply comes alons lust about as fast as wanttd. Fifty centB is about the standard price, liicher figure paid occasionally. little Onions No particular change, jobbing generally at 1 1 cents. Hotter The sunnly of Oregon fresh roll diminishing, and but little of strictly first r.ln. Although fresh, it is afflicted with what wo might call faulty dairy conditions, f.iult in the feeding and management of the cows, fault in ventilation and temperature of tho dairy room, fault in handling the cream, little faults all along the line, and to ciown thu whole, artificial coloring very bungliugly .I,,,,,, to ludo these faults and inve it a more presentable appc.iranco.
