We take the following from the Sail Fran,
cisco Commercial Herald of November 16th :
Duiing tho closing days of last week con.
siderable excitement was exhibited at the two
Call Boards in both wlwat and barley, nota.
l.lv the latter, at which largo speculative
transactions occurred, forcing up pricos of
barley to a high figure. On Monday of this
week and dajs following thcro seems to have
been quite a lull in the barley market, with
snmo Blinding of prices. Wheat, on the con
tiary, is ery firm at the close. Oats are
steady and firm. Corn is quiet. Rye is
without change of fpecial movement. Hay
rulei high. Putitocs are lower under free
receipts. Onions are higher. Butter is
scarco, and choice roll is deaicr. Hops con
tinue to attract attention tho world over,
selling at $1 a pound and upwards, while in
Wisconsin the crop of 1883 is being con
tracted for at 50c. Wool remains dull and
unmoved, with a heavy stock in warehouse.
Tallow is scarce and high, with a lessenjd
inquiry. Hides continue to rule high.
Dating from tho 4th intt to this time of
writing, not a singlo grain charter has been
written, nor is there much inquiry for vessels
at the moment. Ship owners, however, ap
pear diiposed to hold out for extreme rates,
notably for British iron vessels. So far as wo
are advised 42i 6d was tho latest grain
otuutcr, as noted by us last wck; theMerom,
to a diiect port, 45s for orders. It is hardly
to bo presumed that these rates could be ob
t lined in the present state of the wheat mar
ket here or elsewhi re. The disengaged fUct
in n rt amounts to 69,000 regitter tons,
aginut 30,000 tons a year ago. Thero is also
!000 tons in adjacent poits. Tho fleet to
arrive within five mouth, 200.C00 ions; samo
tune in 1881, 307,000 tons, and for the same
period in lShO, 207,000 tons.
Wheat The market is very firm at $1 70
per cental for oxti'a Uioice whito milling, aud
$1 024 to ?1 f71 fr tl10 two K'',,c', of P'i,l,e
shipping. The Queen of tho Pacific, from
Orecon, brought 3,881) sacks, and tho Oregon,
fiom same, 1.020 tacks. There havo been few
n.,len consummated at tho sample session tf
the Produce Exchange, exporters evidently
prcfcirmg to buy in tho interior. On call,
sales were as follows: Nov. 10th, 100 tons No.
I white, buyer season, $1 75. At tho Giam
Exchange, Nov. 14th, salos were : 600 tons
No. 2 white, Dicember,$l 644; 100 do $1 61?;

cciital. Sales yesterday on call of 100 tons
No. I Solium, buyer 1882 $1 69J per cental.
