HOLD AND STOCK COMPANY'S REPORTS. Tiiuimiiay, Sept. 7, 1882. Harvest is well over, and hauling to mill or warehouse is being pushed very rapidly to im prove tho dry weather. Tho grain is in excel lent condition, and will class with tho best. , We have seen a aatnplo of wheat sold as white wheat, brought baok from Liverpool, on which tho Liverpool Corn Trade aw arded dam age of almost 3o a bushel, because thoro were a few grains of red appearing wheat in it. The shipper, Mr. Cniiar, brought this sample back to show here, and It appears that it is really the old white wheat of the country, which has a flinty color when ripened on wot land. It was, of course, a more catch to claim a deduc tion on, but we learn from it the necessity of electing good seed and securing clean aeod of good white wheat, for the English buyer as art that he buys Oregan wheat to got tho color pure, whito, and, if not so, will claim deduction, The wheat market is dull here, except that tome exporters havo to provide cargoes for hips they havo ohsrterod, and so sustain the market. Ono house gives $1 55 per cental as the top of the market; another put it at II 671. ""'I a" agree that tho situation is so uncertain that there is no decided price fur anything, as no cargo can be bought and ship ped hero for hat English orders will allow. The English market remains about as it has been; slight fluctuations and no excitement. Crops are usually good tho woild over, and prices caunct become hinh, though an active demand may come up, and freights (may come down enough to ho'p the farmer's pneu One charter was closed hero lately an iron ship lor the United Kingdom at 00s. Auotlii r ship U supposed to be just chartered at 57. Cd per ton. At Sin Francisco, yesterday, iron ships for U, K Here rharerod at 51s 3d, ami a wooden vessel for 60 3d per ton. It is thought tonnage will lie considerably lower there; a shipper here says that freights should come down to 50s In the Columbia river. So wo live In hope, and tho wheat growers of this valley are expectant that cheaper freights will come and create a better market. But Into om look lor lower tonuage, some ship owners are holding for a rise in freights. We hear of some that refuse charters uuder 05. Compiling the wheat market now with last prlncr, we Hud that an April shipment of Walla Walla wheat brought 41a per quarter, while orders now fur the same wheat will not come within live shillings of that price. Tim freight market helps to keep prices up. Good valley wheat may be quoted at$l 55(31 57) far cental. Some time since an oiler of f I 521 for a choice lot of Walla Walla w heat was de clined. This season's crop in the vicinity of 'Walla Walla is excellent, but wheat grown up fnako river is more or Irs shruukui.
