TorEKA, Kb., April 7. A cyclone started
south of the Arkansas, near Raymond, 1 1 ice
county, last nignt, anil moved in a northerly
direction. It prostrated telegraph poles where
it crossed the Santa Fo tracks. John Wilson's
house was blown down, Mrs. Wilson killed
and a Mrs. Psrker fatally injured. Proceed
ing north ths storm struck the new town of
Chase, and demolished 22 of the 26 buildings
in the place, threw cars fiom the track and
did other damage. Ir. Heed, hptel keeper,
was killed, his wife fatally liurt, and another
woman and child killed. About the same
time a small cj clone with a veritable water
pout passed through the eastern part of the
county later in the day hut did little d image
xeept by drowning out stock. The cloud as

says the Commercial Jlejiorter, is paving the
way toward removal of the embargo from
which Oregon's commerce has suffered for
many years. It is highly probable tho co n

One will be a monster craft, sullicientiy pow
erful to take vessels out and iu regard ess of
w md or storm, or in case of emergency put to
sea ami relievo distressed crafts by bringing
them safely into port. In ordinary weather
tho boat will take two laden vessels through
Columbia's gateway without trouble or delay,
and for these services but .reasonable charges
will be made. Two smaller tugs may be or
dered with sufficient power to take vessels
through thn gateway at any time except dur
ing a temp-st, when tho large boat will be
called into extra service. When tho boats
are placed 011 thu bar the little tow-boats now
employed in bleeding ship owners will bo com
pelled to come further up tho Titer and go
into the log-towing industry, for which they
are better adapted,

on its surface, and a five point star sunk on
either end of the name came ashore at this
place, says the Coos Uty oVeicii, a short time

gilt, while the general surface seems to have
