Of barley, we only produced about half the amount credited the previous year, but it nevcrth less proved to be a most profitable crop. Our sugar import swelled to twice the amount of tho year 1830, and notwithstand ing trim large importation of sugar from the Hawaiian Islands under a most favorable re ciprocity treaty, all tho duties collected by the government on this same article amounted to the large sum of over $13, 000,000. The beet sugar product of California shows less favorable results the present year as com pared with 1830. Our go'd and silver yield has just about held its own with tho previous year. In Arizona, New Mexico and elsewhere) the yield has bten largo and constantly in creasing. Our merchandise exports loomed up in value in consequence of the large grain shipments abroad, aud our Federal revenues advanced boyond the pr: ions year for the same reason. Lumber imports have also gaine 1 over the previous year. The wool clip is not quite so large, nor is tho product of wine ss great as thu prrviou year lut thu latter industry is now being pla;cd on such a large scale that in a few years hence wo may sin ely look for a very largo of this favored homo production.
