Cottage OrriTc, Lane county, wero totally dc

wa quickly communicated to the other two,
one of which belonged to K. W. Whipple &
Hrn., merchants at Cottage Grove, the other
to Mr. A. li. Spire, a capitalist of tho a-ne
filacc. There was somo five or six thousand
lushcls of grain in the warehouse of Whipple
& Hro.,and considerabL- in each of the others,
all of which was destroyed. The buildings
were line ones of the kind, fitted with cle.n

A kew years ago lomo earnest pcoplo inter
ested themselves iu poultry, and we could see
at the State Fairs fine exhibits of all sorts of
fowls; also, they started a Statu Poultry As
sociation, aud had an exhibit here for two or
three years, but this has all died out, and our
Statu seems to take no decided interest iu
this branch of Kno stock. Tho question arises,
whether those who tried it found in profit iu
carrying it on, or whether tho improved fowls
did not answer their expectations. We should
liko to hear from those who wero lately so
much interested iu this business.
