That present very hiirh rates may not bo ma'ntained until then seems quite probable, but wo incline to the belief that freights will not bo below 3 5s for orders to U. K. for iron vessels at any time in 1881, unless the European grain market should de cline materially from present rates. After all the tonnage now beaded for here will only be able to carry away the balance of last year's surphisand wo shall require cnouuli addition al sninping for the growing crops which are estimated to give an export surplus of G00, 000,000 tons. The Herald continncs, as follows: Wo have now entered upon a new harvest year, and it is proper and customary for us to review the situation and progress of the past twele months. In doing so we avail ourselves of a privato grain circular, dated July 1st, which is exnaustive ami covers the whole ground: Twentv-one vessels cleared frnm California for Kuiope during June, carrying i oi, .i.m ccmais wucat, .t.,-ui narrels ol Hour, and 000 centals barley. The cargo per Lady Head was loaded at Wilmington, and tho St. Stephens also took a small p.irt of her cargo theie and then completed in loading at San Diego. To China, Central America, Mexico, and various ports in the Paciiic, tho exports of flour for the past month were 43,00 bar rels. The San Fiuncisui Produce Exchange has appointed a COMMERCIAL TiltTlixNAr, Jul) 14th. Thero is no important change in either tho wheat or wool market. Those who have held on to wool havo not gained anything and it is probable the wool market asserted itself as fully here last month as it can be expected to during tho year. It was a suipiisc to all, even to dealers and manufacturers in the very centres of Eastern trade und manufacture, to tea wool advanco as it did, when the market (or woolen goods seemed much depressed, but the rise was healthy and seemed u spontano 0111 effect of mi actual prospect for w ool d j mand. Hereafter wo may expect our best wools to bo sought after and always to com mand their actual market value The wheat market remains nominally at $1.35 per cental, with 81.37 1 1 eely paid for good lots. With freights i uling as high at San Fiancisco w here, and the quality of our wheat so actually tuperior, we have seen Oregon valley wheat riling only at tho ptieo paid in San Fran Cisco for California No. 2, which is quoted in Liverpool, for prompt shipment at 4Us whicl gives us reasonable right to conclude that ex porters hero have made a good thing of it. Tho S, F. Commercial Herald, of July 7th, bat much interesting information concerning the shipment of w heat and flour from that State from July I, 1880 to July 1881. We am this up briefly as follows: During the past year shipment of wheat, and Hour re duced to wheat, aggregate 15,000,000 centals, or 25,000,000 bushels, which was carried way in 352 vessels, whose registered tonnage was 452,000 tons and actual carrying capacity 760,000 short tons. This was by far the great out amount of shipping that ever was loaded at San Francisco, tho tonnage vi ISM) bring 2Mi vessels. Another fact of importance is that the crop of lhil) left n surplus of only three fourths that of ISM), but sold for more money. The avciagi price paid per cental in 18M-'S1 was $1. -Ill tli.it in ISTII-'SOwas JI.IK) perctl. The lowest yearly average previously was f l.TOlu lS7S.'7;tho liighrat.t'i 2fl in 1877-78. The Commercial Herald ta 1: At thi wntlllg the market u bare of Unengaged grain tonnage, and rales continue to rule nominally t 4 fur orders to the U. K. Only about sixty n r cent, of this sin plus has been shipped, and the remaining forty percent, of last yiar's ampins, together wiui vnu crop which is neing lurtesteil, will give us fully as largo a surplus as we had twelve months ago. Theiefoie, it is evident that again it will bo impossible to ship enough wheat and flour before next Julv to evlmn.t. our stocks, ana wo fear that again hcveinl bundled thousand tons will remain 011 b.iiiil when tho harvest year, which commences to-day, has drawn to a close. Wo also publish this week a very useful and interesting table cirelully compiled by Mr. A. It will be well for many farmers to keep this copy of tho Faumkh to refer to for this hoi tot information in tho future, DiiiiliUM'li's (London) liuuliirof June 1.1th n oonsiilcring the then rise in that market puts it that English authorities anticipate considerable increase of suiplus production in European exporting countries, tnd a large de crease in the American surplus for tho coming crop, and later accounts, received by cable, justify this conclusion. It remains to be seen if the European excess tt ill make up for tho American deficit. The local market remain as before. Fruits ami vegetables aie abundant, both from Cali fornia and Oregon, but prices paid aro no criterion of steady values became reetil.tted merely by local supply mid dcnia-.d. The hop crop promises to bu good, and the question of probable value is int resting to hop growers, with possibility that tho price of the past seasin will not be sustained, because with a generally good pupects for yield, there is fear ol oterpioductioii. The maiket has dropped of Lite bic.iusu a cold spring ai mo r.asi resulted in less consump tion of beer and less demand for hops than was anticipated.
