About four weeks ago a man went into Sd
verton, says tho Slntttmun, and remained a
.short timo, giving his name at John Ander
son. That, however, was fictitious, aa was
afterwards learned. He left town in the
evening, and wheu asked where) ho was going
replied that he was going tu tlnd a food place
to die. Nothing more was heard of him for
some time, ami the circumstance was soon
forgotten.
Last Sturday morning Mr. Win. Moticr,
living about six miles northeast of Sihrrton
-on Mr. Willis Duniugau'a place, went out
Into the woods to get a load of cordwood.

pockets, showed that ho had tommitted
ome fearful crime and was a fugitive from
justice,

Lieutenant appears to be the victim of misfor

croft, who was drowned ou SuuJay last while
fishing in one of Cook's boats, we see by the

beyond Ilwaco. It wa taken to Astoria and
buried from the undertaker's yesterday. It
is not known whether he leases any relatives
or not. He has fished se eral seasons ou the
