Wo publish this week tables carefully com piled by Mr. Sukidorf, Superintendent of tlio Census for this State, from tho very vol uminous returns from tho vaiious counties, forming n valuable nummary of facts relativo to population, lands, property of all kind', products nud nuiiuf.ictures, which will forth to tno world as an evidence that Onguu ia making rapid advancement. These tabka havo Iwen prepared at great cost and are tho private property, by irtuo of copyright, of J. K. Gill k Co, and Mr. A. A. Ilynon, who are publishers of tho forthcoming directory for which tUee census tables are iirtrmleil. llivy are published by us by consent of tho owners of tho copyright, and, of course, no pcrton has any right to republish them from our col iiuiiis, w hiuh fact w e aro requested to make known to avoid dilllcultv. The readers 01 the l'AKMtu are fortuuato in being able to linie the results of the census presented to tliein in this mviner, fir in advance of their publica tion, at W.ishingtoji. Wo should lie glad to have similar tables conccniing the census of Washington Territo ry, if they could bo procured at retsouable t-o.it, but are not able to get them. Tho first columns show the cnsus enumera tions taken in 1S-V), I860, ISTO and IttM). Many couctio li-vl uo organiatiou in 1S0, our were not i.r0'aulud ia 1S00, and La'u county has been organized since 1870. Tlitro ate 10,400 farms in the Stato nud 13,870 own ers of farms. To make a very liberal estimate of mountains and waste lands through all this wide expanse, there must be over ten acres of good soil not in cultivation for esery aire cul tivated, and there jiuut bo many millions of acres that are unsettled, unclaimed, and still waiting for new comers to locate and subdue, that are well worth occupy iiiig. The Willamette valley is supposed to be thickly settled, and is the oldf-at portion of the State. The Oregon City land district in oludos most of this valley, ulo the coast to the Writ of it, and the Oregon tide of the lower Columbia river. Iu the whole district there is 0,608,000 acres, of which 3.7I0.OCO ncr. has been surveyed, of which 'J.509,000 is settled, leaving nearly I, .'00,000 acre of the surveyed laud unoccupied, while a great portion of tho 3,ftVJ,000 acres of unmirocd land in this district is known to lx very rich soil that w ill sometime in ite ilciino settlement. Comparing the tables furnished u from Hon. L. T. Pariii, Iteaister of Land Ollico at Oregon City, showing quantity of land sur veyed and occupied, with the census tables. we find that only a littlo over one-third of the occupied land is in cultivation, and tho culti vated area is only one-fifth -of what we mav suppose to x good soil that will eventually become available. Wo by this means arrive at a comprehensive idea of the conditions that prevail in this, tho most populous portions of tho Korthw 1st loast region, and can easily imagine what its future will he. Extending our comparison to the whole of Oregon, we find that while 2,'.'00,000 aires of land is cultivated, there is. if wo orilv- claim two-fifths of the whole as arable laud, still an area of 20,000,000 acres through tho SUto that is good, arable land not in cultivation. Tlie Oregouiau who imagines that his State is J about developed and that laud is scariii hire, is greatly diiiivevl. The most available re gions only are occupied. Wo w ho came arly got onto tlw smooth places, but millions will find homos in Oreatm and Wasliingtin on iu i 'Z-i COUNTIrS. 2 H 3 c Jj 'J. ,3 a ' lii. jm istn. .Nil .Nu 1k.ll.la Paler r! 33 . 65.1 Prnton.... 56 0) 158.995 Clackamas.
