Tho question proposed by tho State Orango for discussion this month, viz., tho best kinds of farm ma chinery nntl tho best method of cur- lug hay, was thoroughly ventilated. On farm machinery thu discussion touched but lightly upon nnythiug but harvesting Jmplomonts, that seem ing to ho tho all-absorbing subject Just now. Tho oltl-fnshlonotl boo was mentioned as being an Implement of great utility, but did not scorn to find many advocates. Tho rolllng-euttor harrow as n pulverizer nntl cultivator was highly commended, and seemed to bo n unlversnl favorite. On harvesting machines it great diversity of opinion prevailed, but after a thorough discission tho con elusion arrived at seemed to bo that tho cheapest manner of harvesting taking into nccouut tho Immediate crop only is with tho header. Tho Indians nro going into camp, and havo traded ofr soveral liorses. We went nbout H mMes, It being nil tho way up hill to tho last mile, which led down ono of tho steepest hills I over saw wagons pass. down. Wo had to lock tho wheels, and Anally camped in n deep hollow nlong with Tothcro ngaln. Tho coun try wo passed over to-day is moro fcrtiio than any wo havo seen for weeks, having quito a sod of grass upon It, nnd being nenrly destltuto of tho wild wormwood which every where abounds in tho barrcnest partH of tho country. Wed., 23. Went about 10 miles to day, over ono moro mountain, com ing down upon Bear Itlver aud camp ing on ir. This river is ono of the streams which empty into tho Groat Salt Lake. Thurs., 21. This morning is show cry, nnd it is tho first rain wo have had for many weeks. Went nbout 1C miles to-day, keeping down tho river bottom and crossing tho river once. Ono rnllo from last camp crossed Smith's fork. I omitted mentioning yestorday Hint where wo struck Bear Itlver wo caino Into tho old road ngaln. Fri., 25. Went about 10 miles to day, crossing tho river ngaln and climbing over n mountain which shuts In to tho river's edge. Sat. 20. Owing to an injudicious selection of our camp last night wo did not get away from it until 11 o'clock, 60 that wo only wont soven miles to-day. There was an utmost Impenetrable thicket of brush near our camp, from which it seemed Im possible to got the cattle. Sun., 27. Wont nbout 22 miles to day, camping near tho sotla springs. Theso springs nro in the river valley on its nortliorn side, nnd nro ono ol I ho greatest curiosities on tho load. Somo of 'litem nro warm, others cold, and all boiling, nnd most or them Im pregnated moro or less with copperas. Wiiero somo or them boll up they havo formed n lime rock, which on walking over Hounds us if it were hollow. There nro sovoral elevations on the rock two nnd threo feet high shopod llko a sugar-loaf, and their wholo Insidcs are filled with warm water constantly bollingnnd bubbling. Somo of tho water In theso springs Is supposed to bo poisonous, from tho fact of cattlo dying when peoplo havo camped near them. They oxtond along for two miles botweon tho mountain and the river on lis north ern side, ami tho poisonous ones nro supposed to bo located near n small cedar grove. Tho water has not a lively soda taste, but Is rather liko soda water loft open to tho air until it dies, leaving only u rour, ntid (us to, and on tho wholo it is rather mean water. Mod., 28. Went about ten miles to-day, leaving Bear Itlver on our loft and camping near a spring slight ly Impregnated with soda. About a mllo from camp wo passed n spring, tho water of which tasted moro liko ioda water than any I havo tasted of. rho trail from tho States to California parts from tho Oregon road at Boar Itlver, down which It follows, whlio tho Oregon road strikes over on to Snnko Itlver near Fort Hall. A word for tho Boar Itlver Valley before loav- lug It: It comes nearer to being fit for white folkn to llvo In than any section of tho country wo have tmvoled through slnco leaving tho branches of Kansas Itlver, nnd it only lacks a lit tle of being n good farming country. Thu principal drawbacks aro a scarci ty of timber, thoro being only n strip or willow bushes along tho river, with ouco in a long whlio a small grovo or cottonwoods, nnd n little more rain In summer would bo desirable. Tho soil Is excellent, tho climate rather cold of nights, and there is once in awhile u snow-drift to bo seen on tho mountains nloug tho river. There is timber on the mountains nearly sutll dent for tho uso of tho vulloy. Tues., 29. Ono natural production or tho country ought to bo noticed, as It constitutes an important Item or tho food of tho natives, gatuo being rath er scarce hero. This Is tho crickets, which in homo parts or tho valley aro larger anil moro plentiful than I over saw them any whtre else, being from an inch and a half tu two Inches in length, with corporations liko alder men, und tho Indians mako flue, rich pots or soup of them, ns somo of our company saw at a ramp near tho foda spring?. Wo traveled about 14 miles to-day, camping on it small creek which ii probably a branch of Hoar Itlver.
