I-tJi 1 notice inquiries and HUggestlous In rvhtion to ticks on colts. 1 have had some experience In the matter. My remedy Ih to mult hog's lard, and, while warm, pour on tho colt's hack the whole length from between tho oars to the root of the tall, and then comb out, and it is astonishing how easy the ticks let go, and in a few days tho cult will begin to thrive and do well, although, if the colt Is allowed to run out in the woods, it must be greas ed with tho lurd often, or a fresh sup lily of ticks will cover It again. It has ulwuys lieen a mystoiy to me whether the ticks arc bred in the hruhh or not; hut I always notice that the horses are merit tickey when running in woods luuitiiro than on prairie. We are .having a beautiful winter hero hi Southern Oregon, and a larger area of ground Is sown here than ever before, and the prospect is fair for a good crop. I have just returned from California, and all along thu Sacrnniun to the farmers had lost all hope of rais ing a crop this season, It lu so dry. (Muty Jtowed. tlair. ii'iniinarfullfny In October, unci the early rains of that month Hturtcd tho grain up finely, but the HUUMMiuent dry and hot weather completely scorched unci dried tne green shoots, and the wind blew them off and loft the ground lxire. There will be many persons in California en tirely broken up nnd homeless. I came buck more than ever satisfied with our own dear adopted Htate, where we have uover yet lulled to raise a good crop of whatever we planted, for the last twenty-live years. We are now laboring under a stress of tight liuie flnanclally, hut uo fuel that a bright In jure uvvults us lu the not far dUtaut space of time. Our population is stead ily increasing, and industries are springing up which are bound to bu proliiahie. Wu have excellent schools, and numerous pupils to 1)11 them. I set down to tell my cuie lor ticks, and have extended my hitter. If .vou see tit to publish, do so, Wagner Cieek, Jau, W. IJhiMox.
