Philip Horry, of Belchcr town, Mass., will soon publish a book relating a true story of a young man's experience, which will again prove truth stranger than fiction. About twenty-flvo years ago a com pany of young men started out from Damascus for Jerusalem. They had not gone far when a band of armed horsemen surrounded them and order ed them to halt. Tho leader of the band said tho caravan might move on unharmed if they would deliver up one 01 their number, a young man nameu Jtandall, who should not suffer if lie -would come along with them peace fully. After a brief consultation tho terms voro acceded to, and tho last look his companions had of him was to see him mounted nn n lino horse attended by tho gay horsemen of tho Bedouin sheik of the Lo Arish tribe, which usually Winter In the neighborhood of Damas cus, and in tho summer movo South anil East over tho great plain, seeking water for their flocks and herds. "Where tho escort wero to convoy Kan dall ho had no conception, but soon ho found himself at tho sheik's tent, and to his great surprise a magnificent en tertainment awaited him. With amazement ho exclaimed, "What does tills all mean?" Aralla, tho sheik's daughter, had seen the young man, and litiion pas sionately in lovo with him, and this was tho wedding feast. Tho young man and Aralia wero married at once. There was no escape for Jtandall, for Ills tent was faitnfully guarded by Highland his person closely watched hy day, lost lie should escape, and this guard was kept over him for years. Ho seemed happy with his unsought bride, for Aralia proved her lovo for him was more than a mora fancy. Children wero born to them, and their domestic life was marked by kindness, courtesy, and true alfection. Randall rapidly acquired tho Arabic language. Lis wifo readily mastered tho English and thoy taught their children both, which they speak rapidly. Who was this UandallV In tho State of New York lives his father, who has never seen tho faco of his son. This father is now over seventy years of ago and has a history almost as roman tic as that of his son, for he was raised ainoinr tho Indians, and has traveled over tho Mississippi valloy in boareh of Hsu and 1:111110. When he was twenty-one years of ago tho chier advised him to go to tno whilo man (ho was voluntarily among tho Indians), saying: 'You can bo more of a man among tho white people than among tho In dians." lio returned and secured a Welsh lady for his wifo, and whilo she was on a visit to hor relatives in Wales this son was bom. Tho mother soon after dying, tho boy remained with nis kindred, awaiting Ills father from his country, but tho father wns unablo to go after his son, who remained in Wales till manhood, and was taking a trip through Syria when ho was cap tured by tho sbolk. young Jtnnunu was a jsaptist, and through his inlluouco his wilo became tho same faith, and thoir children weie nurtured In tho same way. Randall's win had become sheik of tho tribe, tho father-in-law having died. A dervish, a zealot of tho Moham medan faith, had Tor a long timo been endeavoring to stir up opposition and persecution on account of tho now reli gion. Ho strove to havo Randall's .sous thrown out of tho employment of tho Turkish (Jovernmont, and falling in this, turned his assaults upon a (laughter of tho foreigner, and charged hor with witeher.iit. The charges having been presented and substantiated as best they could bo bv wltnossoss, she was called upon to an swer thu charges through hor advocate. I do not know who hitches the Wom en up, but I know that thousands of them aro hitched up with dogs and donkoys. drawing loads. I never did see two draft animals pull harder than a tall woman and a largo dog, whilo getting a load of straw up a grade, on ono of tho principal streets. 1 do know that thousands and thousands of wom en go about with baskets strapped on their backs baskets that hold from two to two and a half bushels; that ono will carry such a basket full of co.il, with another basket as largo as champagne case on top of it, and that full of chips, or clothing, or anything else. I have many a time seen feeble old women and light young girls with such loads on their backs, trudging along, whilo nale, hearty young lellows walk beside them in friendly chat, ogling women, struttl liko turkey-gobblers, and t their thumbs. I have seen t strous burdens, so loaded that th i with a cane; ono had two can ' had literally turned herself int) i u ped, and staggered on un der . t for a mule, whilo a strap ping oung fellow favored her with a friendly recognition. I havo seen a woman with a heavily-loaded cart, tak ing advantage of tho smooth pavement close to tho sidewalk, driven off by a man witli a light cart, who ran against hor, and, after scolding and swearing, mado her draw hor cart back, and push it up ocr grade, over the rough pave ment, to go around him. It was a pub lic street, and perhaps llfty men saw it; but no one seemed to see any tiling wrong in it. I only saw that once; but I have cer tainly seen 2,000 women drawing or pulling loads that taxed their strength more or less sovoiely. I havo seen them, young and blooming girls; eon them with infants in tho wagon; seen them when they must havo expected to become mothers very soon; seen them old, bent, and gray toiling, pushing, pulling, sweating, working as only omnlbushores work in Chicago. I see them every day ; cannot look out or my window ten minutes or walk two blocks without seeing them. Thoso over-loaded women and their faithful helpmates the dogs with thoir poor. swollen feet, aro a principal feature of Leipsic life. I saw them fir.st in Bel gium; saw them all along tho way. Tho poor dogs! how they do pull and scratch and hold on; and their feet get so sore! Tho patient women throw themselves forward against tho broad straps which aro thoir only harnoss, and drag with might nnd main. Tho man who walks beside, if thero is ono, looks so self-complacent and comfortable, and smokes his pipo with so much satisfac tion, as if ho said : "Zo daro now! Mino Togajid Trail gan bull more ish any Tog and Fran in dish down!" Of course, thoro is love and sweet ness In every life, and these women may bo happy in their lot; for a squaw is proud of tho idleness of hor master, and takes her boating as a matter of course. Of course, it is a women's duty to sharo her husband's toil, and to shrink from no responsibility of wifo or molhorhood: but it seems to mo tho women hero do a great deal moro than thoir sharo of tho drudgory. Hints As to Bkautv. There is nothing moro unfavorable to female beauty than Iato hours. Women who, either from necessity or choice, spend most of the day in bed. and tho nin-iit at work or dissipation, havo always a pale, faded complexion, and dark-rimmed cye. Too much sleep is almost as hurtful as too little, and is sure to give the person unwholeomo fat. Diet, also, has a marked influence up on personal beauty. A gross and ex cessive indulgence in eating and drink ing is fatal to tho fomalo charms, es pecially wliero thero is great tendency to "making flesh." Itegularltyof time In tho daily repast and good cooking aro tho best moans of securing, not only good health, but good looks. Tho appetite should never bo wasted dur ing tho intervals between meals on pastry, confectionary, or any other ticiner ot tno appettto, winch gratifies tho taste, but docs not sunnort tho svs- tem. Exerciso is, of course, essential to female beauty. It animates tho whole physical life, quickens the cir culation of tho blood, heightens tho color, dovelopes tho growths, and per fects tho form of each limb and tho en tiro body. It also gives beauty and graco to every movement. Vit.uan Picked up Acsaix. The astronomers ol Europo, says tho Now "York Tribune, aro just now oxcited by tho rediscovery ot Loverrier's planet, Vulcan. Some twenty years igo tho great Fronch astronomer announced that certain perturbations in tho orbit of Morcury could only be bo accounted for by tho oxistonco of another planet still nearer tho sun, ovou as the per turbations of Saturn had enabled him to discover the planet Neptune. With in threo years after Leverrior's an nouncement a French observer, Dr. Lescarbault, detected Vulcan iu his transit across tho sun's disc; but inas much ns ho has not boon snmi nrrnln since then, most savans havo begun to uuuuc wnetner no was over seen at all. It is not stated whether their observa tions wero hiiUieicut for the precise cal culation of tho elements of tho planet. Keplpi'i, law, however, would leduce tho time of Vulcan's revolution around tho 'un to about a month. This young et of the planets must ewlm in a sea ot almost unimaginable light and heat, and bo uninhabitable by any form of lilo known to us.
