WIJLLAMETTK FARMER. -j CoFESpOfjDEfJCE. Six Months' School, and General Educa tion. Kl. I-'aumkii: In.vour paper of May , I liollrod i:. S. takes Issue In the matter of districts having to keep a alx months' school In order to bo able to draw their proportion of tho school money. Klrst, hesays: " Every t. payer that pays his money Into the school fund, has an iiiidLputud light lo ro oelvo I Is proportion ol said school fund, In ordor lo help defray tho expousos of educat ing his children. " It Is very evident his thoory will uot work In uery instance. Theieato thoso that han little or no proper ty, and, of course, pay little or no taxes, yet their children should ill aw their propor tion of tho school fund; this is right. Sea ondly, Thore are thousands that pay heavy taxes, that have no chlldum if they have, would not 1 able to draw their proportion of aid fund iu ratio to their amouut of taxes paid. He further says: " .V great many of onr small country districts will be cut off entire ly, because it is positively out ot the question lor some of them to have a six months' -c-hool." 1 must differ with; my frieud in this respect. 1 do not think there is a dls lilct lu Oregon but what could have a six mouths' school as well as a three, if they country were brought out, and the most that could be said lu their favor would bo that they ought to be In tho penitentiary. It cer tainly is to be regarded as a mlsfortuno that party spirit runs so high, aud often oxer rides good sense aud discretion, leading men of veracity to transcoud the limits of truth In manifesting their real for the candi dates of their party, and opposing thoasplr Observations on Seeding. Wo would gladly hail the day when Ameri can voters would assert their sovereignty aud Independence, and vote only for tuou whom they think to be worthy, regardless of party affiliations.
