Cans tJin: 'At a meeting of tho Advisory Board of Centennial Commissioners for thc.'-'tate of Oregon, lield in Portland, Jan. 27, 1S7C, to ex amine and pass upon the merits of material collected to represent the ag ricultural, mineral, foreit, marine and other industrial resources of this State at tho Centennial Exposition to be held in Philadelphia another season, it was found that a larye and cicditable col lection had already been made, which when placed upon exhibition before the world would be of incalculable, val ue to our people by advertising the productive capacity of the State in those things that make up its material weh'th. These articles cannot be transported, suitably placed in space allotted to our .State, and properly cared for and ex hibited without funds bo furnished suf ficient to complete the work so credit ably begun. The Commissioners therefore real izing the crisis at piesent, when the public spirit of our people must be ap plied to for the funds to meet the ex penses and secure to our Ftatu the honor of success, and save her the ig nominy of a failure in the gieat jubilee of our lie-public, have appointed a com mittee, and apportioned a sum for each county, amounting in the agjregate to ; 7,000 for the entire State.
