It will rcqtt're many short articles to do this subject justice, also an abler pen than mine; yet in this 1 will endeavor to give a little of my obf-ervatkm of, and the comparative success of, the two sys tems of farming. About tifty year ago, there came from Connecticut two brothers, who settled In iho famous Genesee valley, and bought farms adjoining lands owned by my fa ther. The brothers wero men of integri ty and energy, yet dlilered widely in their vii-wrt about farming. The elder vas for dtiving it on a large scale, and in tfuvor of tilling the. greatest number of ceres with the least practicable amount of labor, al-o of raising nothing but wheiit for market, and depending upon i.r. miim-i'tit. Ills thorough notions oifaiining were un popular, and many laughed at him anil prophesied his I'.iiiure. Still Jio persever ed in his counte, and became a truly j)iospeious fanner, anil when heavy in terest compelled his elder brotlierto sell, ho was able to pay for his impoverished farm; and when tlio lands generally about the country were so impoverished , that a wheat ctt was uncettain, and eeldom exceeded lilteen bushels per acre, this methodical tuul sy.tcmatic farmer was reaping better crops than he raiseii M'hen the land wa, new. If business enables me to continue my correspondence, I will give my observa tions of the two systems of farming, in eastern renusyhania, Delaware, New Jersey, Marylaud, Virginia, and Illinois, The experience of the past should be a guide to the wise, of the present and rising generation. Mm iiaxic. Portland, IK) ,;enti Is fully op to what they should pay. f We do not lesru that any other parties re in the market here. It is said that wheat is now being hauled to the river bore past warehouses ttullt on the railroad, to save the higher rates charged by rail over the river. The railroad has reduc ed its charges about 'JO per cent, at points re mote from the river, It Is said, to prevent this being done. The Oregon Wheat Crop for 1875. Every indication point? to a probable In creased production of wheat ror the crop Just harvested. Here In Salem the receipts are very greatly in excess of those of any former year. Last weak we mentioned that the re ceipts were 250,000 bushels again3t less than ICO.OPO bnshels the year before. Not less than 00,000 bushels will be added by the time we go to press. The rush of wheat to market elsewhere corresponds. Oervais ha already all her warehouses full, and whfift Is being piled out doors. Probably the same rush is prevailing at all points in Marion county. At Albany the influx of wheat Is beyond all precedent. A friend who was there on Monday states to ns that the Farm era' Warehouse there took In 15,000 bushels that day and they thought the total receipts In town were towards 40,000 bushels. That may bo a high estimate, but it is evident that Oregon has more wheat to sell than ever be fore, and our fannersare Improving this pleasant weather and the good roads to placo It where it can be easiest shipped and dis posed qf when the time comes that they are willing to sell. Wheat Receipts at Salem. Mar!. Lane I,' London, Spt. 20. The From the Ortronlan. WASHINGTON COUNTY FAIB. Hll.i-snolio, 8pt. 10, 1875. The rain began to fall Bbout 4 o'clock a. in., and up to the present writing kept coming down handsomely, so that the track, of which bo much has been said, has received a handsome soakiuu; and myself, in company with the board of directors, went round the track to see for ourselves the condition it was in, and in all truth, backed by the board of dlrsctors, I must say the track is not halt as bad as represented. From the eutranee to the track down the back stretch, the center Is hmev. but Inside and out is as hard as auy of our county roads, though springy under neath. From the second quarter home the track is in as good condition or better than I over saw It since tnero nas oeen a iracK, and we defy contradiction, the stories ped dled around for the Injury or the society to the contrary notwithstanding. The shape of the track does not suit trotting men in that the corners are not raised sutnelently on the ouUide, but it should be recollected that it takes money to do these things, and the so ciety, like individuals have to do the very best they can under the circumstances. Trot ting mrn, llko all other classes of persons, are busily ongigod talking up their interosts and working for thoir WAnts, which is con ldnrcd by tattlers as a wnr on the society, which Is wholly untrue.
